Personally I was really hoping for a scenario like that, were they get bombed and Amy wakes up in a pile of corpses with a limb missing a dies a slow painful and miserable death...

Can you tell I don't like her character?

No idea if the manga will also have the same fate, but...
She ends up having the canon fate that Anastasia would have endured, which consists of her voice getting sealed so her compelling voice no longer works, and she is sold as a sex slave to a mine.

It's been mentioned in this thread, but do we know if Amy actually invented that ballista? The text bubble just says it's a new weapon. And I have doubts she knows enough general knowledge to design one. Is it mentioned in the LN?

Just looking at that monstrosity on page 13, I can't tell if it's just horrible or worse. It has 2 large side wheels, and 2 smaller perpendicular wheels. I can only assume that's how they're rotating it, turning the entire thing with pure human muscle power with those extending poles. It could probably work as a siege weapon, but that's probably not even hitting a moving horse at range. Feels more like they converted a normal ballista and made it "portable".

And even the armored conveyances in panel 3 are based on a bad conception of what they're fighting. It looks like a modification of armored battering ram structures. But with big wheels, to protect maybe a small squad of people. But also, entirely impractical other than as mobile arrow defenses. Angled metal front and a metal roof. Probably deflects most fire arrows, but doesn't look big enough to fit horses, so pure human power again. So tired porters moving that and leaving even less room for actual troops.

How does she not understand that they "tried" to make anti air weapons.
Then again she has no idea what dude was capable of and thinks plot armor will save her

The US recently tested a directed energy weapon, what people tend to call laser (though this isn't accurate), so that is likely going to eventually make the meta change once again once the size issues are dealt with.
there are trade-offs with this weapon type:
  • its power requirements make portability difficult.
  • it's cheap to fire, but not cheap to maintain.
  • bad weather diminishes the effect due to heat dispersion.
  • difficult to integrate logistically due to the unique nature of the equipment relative to others.
  • doesn't solve low-level air defense.
that said, it's a step in the right direction. realistically, IRL militaries need to shift to a combined arms approach for air defense (guns, missiles, and lasers) to handle all the flying bombs.

and more to the situation in the manga. cold arms warfare was focused on unit cohesion and high mobility. the idea being that mobility allows you to outmaneuver the enemy and hit them where they are weak. if the shock of your attack is sufficient, the enemy formation will break from fear, and they will be defeated in detail. that's why we see lots of cavalry in later medieval years for all civilizations. cavalry is fast, and a cavalry charge inflicts massive shock.

the MC's CAS strikes are literally the antithesis of cold arms war. not only is he unable to be hit, he can kill them with impunity. the enemy clusters up and he counters with AoE damage. if the enemy disperses, which is a common countertactic, they'll be defeated in detail by ground forces.

anyways, i like seeing modern weapons in old settings.

The text was confusing, and I probably said some misinfo.
I think they likely stole it & reverse engineered those ballistas from the neighboring country that started the war (Empire) on top of capturing a major stronghold/city, they likely had people who could've produced those weapons, it would make sense that they'd somehow quickly produce those weapons within maybe a half-years time??? Unsure how long time passed from between Ana's rescue and current war arc.
We do see similar weapons being used against our MC during his rescue operation at chps. 38.2. The weapon looks small then the giant moving platform with the scaled up ballista.
So some possiblities could've occured.
1. They "upgraded" what they already had.
2. Tech was stolen then "upgraded". (Likely because I see no similar weapons when they were invading with MC)
3. They never had the tech and Amy just gave it to them (Unlikely since she doesn't look like the engineering type).
4. A mistranslation on the text.

No worries, I had to ask, because sometimes people mention something offhand, and it's from different media.

And also, because sometimes it's just design weirdness from the artist, themselves. Like the only reason it popped into my head, was because that picture is all sorts of jank. All that boxiness, reminds me more of the Pizza Thrower from TMNT. I looked over 38.2 and yeah that's a standard ballista. The ones in this chapter are obviously larger, and potentially shoot something bulkier or at least more of them. But doesn't really vibe with those.

Yup... MC did straight and level drop runs over the lines of enemy pewpew without even coming in range or range of motion of the "anti-air"...
Heavy ballista have a horizontal arc range of roughly 500 yards max but their vertical height limit is about 350 to 450 feet. So the MC is able to cruise well above their maximum ranged altitude and keep on dropping his AoE bombs. The great logistics problem for the Kingdom army is taking care of the wounded. They're not self-mobile. They consume logistics and force the army to have multiple camps if it continues to advance and leave the wounded behind. Or the heartless Kingdom can choose to abandon the wounded and keep moving forward with all the logistics to attack Ramslett.

The Kingdom is in a quandry. All of the Kingdom coastline is under Ramslett control so that means the Kingdom gets no port shipping. Most of the Kingdom's grain fields are in Ramslett-controlled territory to begin with. So as more nobles sword to the Ramslett banner, I wonder how much foodstuffs the Kingdom cities have before famine occurs.

Speaking of camps. If it were me, I'd do night raids. It'd be easy because camps are just light up targets, lots of campfires being made, makes it easy to target. Make them unable to sleep and give their army shell shock. Plus it'd be easy for MC to find his way back as long as his allies light up a make shift landing zones using torches forming a circle or something.

It might be cheaper to ship your current PC to the new address first, then to attempt to get ANY digital device. depending on the state of your pc of course.
