As someone whose parents divorced while I was in high school too, this does hit home and is very well portrayed.

Of course it's different for everyone. Many folks end up divorced due to cheating, abuse or worse, rather than just a couple drifing apart. But the ever increasing rift between the family was something I felt a lot too during high school (it was probably there in middle school as well I just didn't pay much attention). Idk when it started but eventually you notice your parents just aren't the same anymore, they're out doing their own thing and the interactions between themselves and with you all feel off in subtle ways, until the inevitable notice of divorce comes in.

In my case I was pretty jaded by the time my parents announced their divorce, since it had been years of us drifting apart and me interacting less with them, it just felt more like "Yeah figures". If anything I just wish they had told me sooner instead of pretending to be a married couple for years to "preserve" the family. Though looking back on it now, it probably screwed me up emotionally in ways I didn't and maybe still don't grasp.

I feel for you Maki.
