I'm sorry, but if her behaviour here appears to be 'teasing' to you and others, you might want to take a second hard look. That is the face of someone who is 100% serious.
Which panel? To be honest I'm on the other guy's side. Sure, she looked serious when she first caught him but that was probably due to the shock of having his son bringing a girl home (she was pretty chill after the fact), and the only other time she looked serious was during the lightning panel (which was really only done for comedic effect).

The only part I would agree with is the part where she didn't let him bathe second; which is weird, I agree but that would lead to a very different discussion of how much should we use a character trait ommited from the source material to judge the personality of the characters in the adaptation.

Which panel? Seriously? Nothing about her words and actions in that scene were "chill", and she was definitely coming across as half a step away from implying that her own son is a sexual predator not to be trusted alone with a female of the same age. I don't know anything about the source material, but guaranteed she is either divorced from a cheating husband or she's just a manhater in general.

-Page 14, panel 1 : Looks like a contemplating face because she's trying to understand the situation
-Page 14, panel 3 : A face that that looks like she's keenly listening to her son.
-Page 14, panel 4 : A soft lecturing face. (Sure, looks quite melancholic but nowhere near the level you're describing)
-Page 15, panel 3 : Now this one is the most up for debate, but from my perspective, it was a face of acknowledgement to Maki's statement about apologizing
-Page 15, panel 4 : A cheeky smile, even the comments from her in the next page felt more like teasing than scolding.

I don't know man, seems pretty chill to me. The most serious she looked was when she first caught them sleeping and I already explained why in my previous comment. After she listened to him, she wasn't really angry, berating or anything of the kind.
After a reread, the part that I feel supports your case is the part where she told him to avoid being in the same room (which is distrustfull, I agree) and the previously mentioned webnovel exlusive moment.

Kudos for trying, lol. It only took one response from them for me to see that it wasn't worth the effort. Can bring a horse to water but you can't make it drink and all that.

Wow, again one of the best sleepover chapters I've read. Reasonable, funny and wholesome. I hope this keeps up.

I.. actually don't like the mom. She comes across as kinda.. bitchy? Like, despite saying so, she clearly doesn't trust her son to be alone in a room with a girl. Which is just sad, and honestly pretty messed up on her end. You can be a sensible parent and not act like your teenage son is a potential sex offender.
That is normal. It is normal to not have your teenage child in the same room as a teen of the opposite sex. She isn't worried about him "attacking" her. The mom is worried about them mutually doing the deed. Unlike in anime/manga Most mother are NOT fine if their child has sex before 18(in the US)/20(in Japan).

Normal to be cautious about your child's friendships with members of the opposite sex, sure. But her reaction is not one of 'caution', she clearly does not trust her son AT ALL and is practically treating him like a sex offender looking for a target. Nevermind the fact that he is clearly a normal, well-behaved young man with plenty of common sense.

There is also the fact that while she treats him with suspicion and thinly veiled animosity, she is nothing but nice and polite to the girl. Which is what leads me to believe that she is at least some level of man hater.

Amazing how a mother like that produced a son like this.

Where are you seeing these thing cause their no where to be seen in the manga. She trusts him enough to be completely alone most nights. Suspicion makes complete sense; your child has never had a friend and suddenly you come home relatively early from work and find your son and a girl sleeping in your sons room. "thinly veiled animosity," are you calling the mom's completely normal amount of politeness, even for America, towards umi for animosity towards her son?

It's an unexpected "meet the parent" chapter. I LOVE it when things like this happen in romcoms. Maki's mom is pretty serious at first glance (actually the sensible, responsible type), but it seems she can tease him too because that thing about him supposedly touching Umi's cheek was definitely some, ahem, cheeky teasing from her.

I look forward to a few more instances of his mom teasing him about Umi if she ever makes another appearance. I'm sure this was an exception because she's a busy working mom who normally isn't home early.

Also, I do feel his mom approves of her (as a friend). She never did tell her son to stop meeting her on Fridays after all. Wouldn't be surprised if the next time she's home early is on another Friday.

I think people take the mother's reaction too seriously. It's still a comedy manga, after all. Relax, lads.

It's even worse in the novel, to the point that she won't even let him go in the bathroom after Umi has a bath because she thinks he'll do something with her bathwater.
Like... selling it on Ebay for some extra cash?

This smooth criminal used manga as a cheap ploy to get a pure maiden into his bed! How scandalous!

It’s refreshing to see a series where the main leads a calm, civil, and recognize the value and importance of transparency. To that end being willing to talk openly about your feelings can be tough, especially when it’s with two people like this. But they’re managing just fine.

It’s quite the surprise that his mother showed up, though it was only a matter of time. Her parents are going to have a lot of questions for her when she gets back home, she spent the night at a boys house, a boy they (presumably) know nothing about since she’s kept it a secret.

Oh and she looks adorable in that sweatshirt, my god.

Most ppl use public transit here too, and only a fraction of ppl own a car. However, people that live in a villa (like mc's family) almost always own a car (rather, the progression tends to be apartment -> car -> villa; due to scaling costs and how much useful increased mobility is when you already have housing, compared to increased housing; Also usually further from centrum, so cars are even more comfort-improving once you live in one), particularly if they have children. Particularly particularly if they are old enough said children start getting lovers.
MC's family have a villa eh?

I wonder if you even read the manga
