"You have to do this." "I don't want to. I'll probably just call in sick and skip it." Wow she's really acting so mean to her rn.

"I want to go home." "Yeah but why not give me your phone number?" "No." That's uncalled for. I feel bad for yuu.

I don't think Arae's the one who's being a pain here. Let the girl be.

Umi is talking about basketball here, right?
For the moment, yes.

I mean, Arae obviously has some deeper reason to brush off everyone and might actually want to be included, but, on the surface, she made her disinterest pretty clear, only for Yuu to keep trying to force her to feel differently about it all day, for no real reason other than "I REALLY want everyone to participate". And then the others show up and start shittalking her for not happily putting up with it. Even MC, who should be able to relate to her and see the issue with their approach, just acts like she is being an asshole for no reason.

If anything, she is being too nice. If it were me in her position, I would have crashed the fuck out.

I'm surprised Maki didn't feel any sort of connection to Arae, given he was also kind of a loner when the series started. Jumping straight to calling her behavior toward Yuu "mean" when it read as curt and disinterested more than anything felt kind of out-of-character for him, in that sense. Like, all of the group are taking rumors and hearsay about Arae and making their judgments off of that, and I'd expect better, given all of them have dealt with "high school gossip/drama" before in this series, and so this weird shift in them falling for it when it comes to a new "outsider" character reads as kinda contrived.

I just hope Arae gets actual character-writing for her, and isn't treated as a plot device for whatever's going on with Yuu.
This was a kinda painful read. Yuu is an oblivious airhead with this stuff and the rest of the main cast have already written Arae off. What's crazy is that none of the other girls in class denied for a SECOND that they didn't want to play with her. You'd expect Yuu to at least say something like, "Wow. It's so considerate and kind of you to not want to make everyone else uncomfortable." But no. The classroom girls get to comfort Yuu like they're all the victims when ultimately Arae wasn't even that rude. She essentially said, "No one likes me, so I'm not going to bother. Write down whatever, and I'll stay home." Not even sure where Maki is coming from saying Yuu did nothing wrong. Arae was incredibly direct with why she isn't participating and the reasons why pretty much confirmed her choice by saying nothing. Then the rest of the main group came and just started addressing her as a problem indirectly. Her actions this chapter were particularly mundane. She doesn't want to participate in team sports when the team doesn't like her, she said a simple single no to exchanging contact information, and she didn't like it when someone blocked her from leaving the classroom. Oh, no call the police 😕.

With Arae the stance of the story, or at least classroom right now, is that she's a problem for keeping to herself. She's not a disruptive or distractive force in the classroom. She's just ignoring them and doing the bare minimum to not have disciplinary action for cutting school. While she clearly doesn't want to be in the classroom, there's no real sign that it's due to actual criminal delinquent reasons. She's not a bad influence on other students or harming their studies. If she doesn't want to get close to other people that's her. Maybe there's something going on with her and maybe it's holding her back from an enriching school life. Who knows. But she's not the villian just because she's a loner. In this type of situation the teacher should be taking the most initiative to try and help Arae participate more in class. She really should be calling home already (not waiting until she skips more) to make sure there's nothing going on in her life that might contribute to the attitude. In Japan especially teachers are supposed to be involved in and responsible for being on top of these matters for students. However, as far as her classmates go, it's really none of their business if she doesn't want to be friends as long as she isn't actively harming everyone else. Like my god it's rough seeing everyone act like she's committed first degree murder when all she's done is be a loner. The biggest difference is Maki was a wallflower that and Arae is more actively A social.

This feels more like a case of Japanese culture where it's treated like a sin to not be apart of the group. Something something the nail that sticks out gets hammered down. From my mindset being "nice" isn't pushing people that don't want to socially engage to do so when they're clearly uncomfortable. More so it's not to one sidedly cast blame (Arae is right in that the rest of the class don't want to engage with her (address the problem at its core first)) or treat Arae like a charity social case not to be given up on. Even if it were that Arae WANTS to be friends with everyone and is just shy, if people aren't ready then they aren't ready. No just means no. But that's really the problem with these stories. It's all well and good when the character isn't a loner by choice and is "saved" by another more popular character who then slowly opens them up to the class. And that's the only acceptable scenario.

Japan has the saying "the nail that sticks out is the one that gets hammered" down for a reason. They're all about the collective good over the individual.

I think that's it for me, I really don't need that unnecessary addition to the cast and all that drama that resolves around her, this story was quite good until like few chapters ago, but seeing this and having the idea of what will happen in the story later, I can't imagine otherwise, that the cliched editor started butting in to the OG author's work at this point. Was good ride while it lasted. Have fun to anyone reading this.

Not really liking this arc, like at all, so far the class separation hasn't shown anything that makes it make sense to do, like we stay on Maki's POV as always, the bits about other classes are just from comments of the others in the group (like we don't see anything of Umi class, apparently nobody cares about Seki enough to know more about his class aside from being unruly, etc), we go back to the initial dynamics of Yuu being the center of attention and Maki being the absolute loner, where did all the progress go? oh he made some attempt in his intro and they showed a friendly guy but in the end nothing changed and his only friends are the ones he meets outside his own class, why did they separate them then?

New character Arae, the branded troublesome girl, she's... not really doing anything against the class, the teacher already being antagonistic to them, then Yuu being the obnoxious kind airhead wanting to befriend her like normal, it's like she didn't learn anything from all the previous stuff that happened, the MC group also kind of identifying Arae as someone they shouldn't interact with and getting bothered by her actions (that were kind of justified since Yuu is so pushy and she didn't like that) like they already decided she was the problem, I don't know man.. that's kind of what a mob bitchy group does, they just shut her down without considering she might have issues outside that make her like that, like even with Maki comment about her being like him at the beginning, like do we even have any rumours to lean on to know why she's so disliked?, it's weird, they suddenly became so... unlikeable..?

Idk man, the different classes thing makes no sense to me, they just changed the scenes to meet outside classes, the new girl is being unjustly shunned by everyone (including the MC group), the spoilers say this arc is pretty weak but so far, it's way worse than I expected, like what difference would it have made if they introduced the girl in a 2nd year with all the group together? what's the point of separating Maki and Umi if they're not planning some love drama? (it seems they're gonna focus on Yuu and Arae) even if they were, it just doesn't fit, I don't think anything in this 2nd year setup makes sense and I hate that
