Even if it's interesting, it's not very good. 5.5/10. (Time of review: 2 chapters)
Tl;Dr: Quite literally mid. Generic storyline. Generic protagonist. Generic everything, really. Except the setting. Novel setting. Terrible pacing. Ok art.
WRITING:
Plot:
It appears that we are focusing on the trials and tribulations of YAER (Yet Another E-Rank).
If you must know, the story is about our protag-kun, who is just a weakling "Colorless" (read: Nobody). After being treated like trash by a couple of "Colorists", he awakens his hidden dark side and ganks them. So cool, much edge.
Look, what can I even say? I try not to let too much personal bias into the reviews I write, but come on. Save some originality for the other parts of the story as well. It feels like the author doesn't even care enough about the plot to write it. They're just hitting all the tired tropes.
Characters:
Flat as a board, and I don't mean in the chest area. They are either forgettable, or literally John Archetype. Not much to them. 80% of them don't even have names, and are just called by their color. That's how little the author cares.
I've more complaints, but I care little enough as is, so I'm not going to go into them.
Pacing:
There isn't any to speak of. In the first chapter alone we get 1) Character motivation, 2) Flashback, 3) Emotional moment, and 4) Awakening. Most stories would have spread that much over at least 5 chapters, but not this one.
Setting:
The only passably good thing about this story. It's novel, and I haven't seen anything like it before. I quite liked the picture the synopsis painted in my head. But all my hopes were shattered the moment I discovered that this is just another dungeon/hunter manhwa in disguise. And a sloppy one at that.
Despite that, the setting is the only reason I rated it above a 5 at all.
ART:
Character:
It's quite alright. Nothing too special. You can immediately tell who the side characters are, but somehow the main characters don't look all that much different.
In action scenes, characters look stiff and wooden. Their poses are not exaggerated nearly enough.
The creatures are real cute, though. That's a plus.
Background:
The backgrounds, where they are drawn, are passable enough. I appreciated that when we visited the workshop, things were drawn in the foreground to imply a sense of clutter. That was a neat touch.
Layout:
Nothing too fancy. Things have enough space, I just wish key events were not confined to a handful of speech bubbles and panels.
P.S.: I would normally write a more conscientious review, but I just don't care enough about this slop.
