Created account with gmail that doesnt exist, I want to recover my username

I wanted to create an account but accidentally typed an extra character on my gmail, when it sent the verification mail I noticed the issue and restarted the sign up process, however when I tried with my actual gmail it told me that the username was already on use, apparently it got claimed by that first attempt but there is no way for me to access that account and delete it or change the username, I tried to create the gmail with the address I accidentally typed but the verification mail isnt arriving, I guess because I created it after using it to sign up, is there a way to fix this? I really dont want to give up my original username, I am now owner of the gmail that was used for that account so I think it wont be an issue to ask for its deletion
