Yeah, there's always been a lack of characters capable of tsukkomi, so that's why he seems smarter. But everyone is dumb unless the plot calls for them to have the rare bright idea.

Nah he really Really REALLY regards Funabori very highly because of her absolute saintliness
If she asks him to go destroy an entire country(not that she really would've) he'd do it no questions ask(and somehow manage to do it too, the absolute madman)

Takao is actually dumber than he is since she failed her midterms and had to get supplementary lessons

Main problem with Kazama is that he's a bit reckless and stubborn at the same time, not to mention so easily provoked into doing what you want just by prodding him a bit, he's basically a huge pushover
He's actually pretty sharp when it comes to noticing details but planning things isn't really his strong suit
