Well, by the time he realized he didn't want to be a hero he was already strong enough to earn an easy living with low to mid level adventurer requests easily

This one makes sense though. The 3rd son is acting like a child, so he's being treated like a child. It's also a bad idea to give treats to the entire escort party except one. It can also be seens as thoroughly proving that D ranks are not the kind of trash who discriminate based on another's background.
