What im concerned about is if this Theria guy is more than just kinda frail, if he's pushing himself just to attend classes. That would give a good reason for Latos to be unwilling to make him the heir, it's guaranteed to result in an early grave.

Off the top of my head it was done in Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu (How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord). One of the heroines is eleven princess and her mother arranges to have her marry an evil looking politician (he looks like an orc). He turns out to be a good guy, skilled at politics, and has no intention of forcing the marriage. It all ends with him becoming the protagonists aide.
