I dont think Incel translates well, You're pretty much saying he's born ugly/unlovable and will never be able to procreate, with that word. Its a lot more harsh. The word might be thrown around as a buzzword a lot but the meaning of the word is a lot more heavy than "some introvert".

I think incel fits pretty well. And yeah, it's a harsh word that's why I didn't use "introvert".

First i want to ask how that definition fits into the way you used the word "Incel". Did you want to call him ugly or a loser? Why not just call him that? Did you want to use slang to represent slang? Or do you just want to use the word Incel?

You could easily just use "loser" "nerd" "geek" to keep it simple but if you want to go for slang, calling him a "permavirgin" or something close to that could work.

My issue with the use of Incel is that at this point, as a slang word, its a lot more weighted than just the definition holds. It brings a picture of some guy who thinks he's super ugly who's mad at the world. It makes you characterize his brother as someone like Elliot Rodger rather than just "some guy who cant get laid" or some shit.

I'm trying to keep it as close to the original. Thank you for your input.

I agree that a younger brother talking smack about (a jackass of) an older brother to third party would indeed use the original word TL localized. So it's appropriate. But I can also agree with that *certain words may be triggering. Perhaps this one is as triggering as the "n-word" to some audiences. Like here. (Note: as Boondocks shows, even that can be tasteful when appropriate in time and place.)

Aside: Personally, I prefer 100% authenticity to sugar-coating. With exception of obscure cultural references, thereby requiring side-bar notes by good TL. (See: the TL doing "Heterogeneous Linguistics".) Because (a) author gets to decide what word to use (b) context is lost (c) changes are no longer translations, they're adaptations. (See: that group that redraws/censors cleavage in manga they scanlate, rather than age-gate.)​

However (especially in Japanese manga) "Soyboy" may be equally triggering, if not causing more confusion. Since that insult is rarely used by in-group to in-group. It's an out-group to in-group insult. (I've never seen a JP call another JP that.)

Weighing both in the context of "a younger brother made to do a junk food run by an abusive older brother too lazy to do it himself, and his own brother calls him fat", I agree with the use of the original translation word. Especially with TL's additional context.

Fat loser, pig, glutton, or fatass is a fitting word for it.

The reason is that Chii-gyuu is a word to make fun of people adding 3 slices of cheese to an already caloric-dense food (not to mention that the cheese will overpower the original gyudon taste) so using words like fattie, pig, or glutton is close enough to the original intention.

Example:
"He's a fat loser so he should be shaving off some pounds anyway".
"He's a fat pig so he should be shaving off some pounds anyway".
"He's a fat glutton so he should be shaving off some pounds anyway".
"He's a fattie so he should be shaving off some pounds anyway".
"He's a fatass so he should be shaving off some pounds anyway".

Incel doesn't work here because normal people (especially boys/men) wouldn't use that word unironically as an insult, doubly so while talking in real life. Men are more likely to use asshole or retard than the word incel.
