He's not afraid. He's just trying to think things through. It's just two different ideas about how to best handle the situation. If they all go in there and they're wrong, they would all be stuck with no one to help. He wants an expert's opinion.

I think not going in after then is the right choice though. we know that it's dangerous, but also that there is a chance you don't get to leave. On the other hand, the two inside the game are fairly capable individuals who likely won't need help. They don't know anything about the game, but that's all the more reason to get an expert. That one dude survived for years in there without any supernatural powers, I think they'll be fine.
