We see in the opening that he kills a guy whose death is attributed to an 'unknown mage hunter'. So he probably isn't telling others that he's the one that killed them.

He probably is just a lunatic that kills other lunatics, so by default not a very lawful person in the first place. Just an example of when you fight evil with even greater evil
