If she really wanted to be a villainess, she could just let the saintess title come naturally then take revenge on people. That kingdom is way too optimistic about her return though.

For an academy about finding the saint, they sure dismissed that super obvious sign rather quickly.

Also. The 300th exam? Did they establish the academy immediately after killing her? Just how quickly did those assholes change their tune? It might have been better if the citizens rebelled and put the royal family to the sword, then established a new country honoring the Saintess in that case.

Why is writing a Villain/Villainess story where the MC is actually an evil, unreasonable ass so hard? And why is this genre misrepresented by these bland as hell do-gooders?
are you telling me you would find it easy to identify with a protagonist/lens character who is actually evil? And not "anti-hero / doing bad things but getting good results", but actually cruel, malicious, violent toward innocents, completely self-centered.
Isekai as a genre is escapist fantasy for the reader to either self-insert, or at least to identify with, the main character and live life through them. Doing that with someone who goes around murdering children and raping / pillaging and drowning puppies and kittens, isn't really a smart move on the part of an author seeking to make money off sales of their series toward a broad potential audience base.

Every book, comic, manga is an escape from reality. You don't have to identify or insert yourself with/into a protagonist to find them interesting. If the premise is "Live as a Villainess" and she lives like she is basically worse than Doofenschmirz at committing crime, then that is not a villain. And lastly, you sure went to an extreme at the end, but counterpoint: Dio Brando cooked Jonathan's dog and everyone still loves Dio as a character. A character that rapes children doesn't really come to mind, but I remember ppl glazing Redo of Healer. Plenty of good villains dont give a fuck who dies, even if its children. Point is if you can identify yourself with these MCs, then I'm deeply sorry for you, because they have no personality.

Because people don't buy books about true villains... You only have to read the newspapers to see them all around you.

The only genre that has any semblance of real villains as protags is revenge-porn.
And even there the antagonists are even worse bastards than the protagonist..
A magnificent bastard like Raoul is a prime example.

And you certainly won't find those tales in anything with the Shounen/Shoujo tag...
That kind of story is strict Seinen territory.
Possibly Josei, but I've never seen those around, since that classification is more like the standard Romance Novels..

Given that this manga is marked as shoujo, you're simply barking up the wrong tree..

That's not my point though and what you said about the villain genre is ridiculous. There are plenty good Villain stories, that are not revenge porn. Im reading and recommending Myst, Might, Mayhem or I get stronger the more I eat. And by your logic you should dog on souls like games as well, since they represent the rot in society, similar what's happening irl or just anything that correlates to something bad in reality. Ergo, im criticising your feeblemindedness.

Even if it bears the shoujo/shounen tag, the title clearly states "Live Like a Villainess". That is my problem. Creating this expectation of something it isn't. The misuse of Villain in titles in general upsets me, but this is very blatant. If you went to a convenience store for cookies, there were just beans inside, you'd be angry, no? Or would it be ok just because they were tagged as organic?

shrug

You are, of course, completely free to write a Sternly Worded Letter to the publisher, possibly the author as well, about how the title offends your expectations and sensibilities.
No doubt they'll have a classic filing cabinet exactly for that...

Her responses to ppl, and many of her actions as well, are just too stupid for her character. Her character build shows that she has some brains, but then she speaks (or moves) and all those brains spill out her ears. The author shouldn't have made such a large contrast here since it doesn't even fall in the realm of gap moe. It can only be considered as sheer stupidity or some type of mental disorder, which I doubt was the author's intention😅.
Probably the reason why she got executed

Probably a typical high INT but low WIS build. Might have low CHA too, but she's pretty enough to get a bonus on that. Min-maxing can get some strange builds after all.

I think she’s just really used to being able to brute force her way past stuff and has no reference for normal human interaction that wasn’t the various scumbags trying to use her.

As for the magic, she would be presumably be surrounded by the most legendary and powerful figures of that are. Her sense of scale is warped accordingly.

You'd think that she'd refuse to go to the saintess academy, given her past life :nyoron: but I guess we'd have less plot if we went that route

This feels like it could be good but needs a better writer.

I'm also never fond of the "magic is just shittier now than it was X years ago, so the reincarnator is automatically better than everyone" trope, especially when there's no explanation at all for why magic is shittier.

You seem to have misunderstood the basic premise of the genre...
Pray tell, what have I misunderstood?

That the title is literally "Live like a Villainess" yet with the most lukewarm FeMC ever?

What I do understand is that many mangaka have really got comfortable slapping Villain/Villainess behind everything. It's oversaturated.

Contrary to appearance, I don't feel too strong about this manga. It just so happened to be the last drop in the barrel for me.

She is just a book nerd trying to be a bad girl and failing.

It's adorable, and I find it funny that her attempt to be bad was really a super good act.
