This is a fantasy world. Who's to say she couldn't have been healed? She clearly wasn't dead yet. But also, even then, that doesn't negate my point. The roots still directly harmed her.

Ngl this feels less like a twist and more like the author said "they were racist against her but that's not a good enough reason to kill them all. I know! Systemic rape! That'll justify killing everyone!" Out of nowhere, needlessly cruel, and just plain ridiculous. Not unusual but something annoyingly common in manga, especially ones that aren't very good.

Brudda I'm not going to say that The World Tree Has Eyes isn't a particularly fucked up turn, but the mains got busy with a licquor bottle while being watched by a ghost in chapter 2 so its not like this was completely out of left field.

It is kinda weird when in the same chapter you can have a character casually survive having their head chopped off but another one can't deal with breathing weird smoke for a bit, or at least can't get healed from it
