A .apk file is basically an Android executable. If you download it and try to access the file, it should prompt you to install it. You may need to tell your phone to allow "Unknown Sources" to install it first. You can find that setting in different places depending on your version of Android. You can probably just Google search your phone and the words "unknown sources" and find something to help you.

For me it's faster than yesterday but it's still slow. Opening the forum feels more responsive, but I can barely load the manga.

@MoiSoi
Service update (Jan 30th)
The lag is almost over. We will be upgrading our Cloudflare plan once their billing system maintenance is finished.

Still lagging for now, not sure when their system maintenance is going to finish, but it'll likely be better within the next day or two.

@Boogiepop Android allows installing third-party applications, obviously at your own risk. FDroid allows you to keep track of and update certain third party apps.

Things are still quite bad for me regarding loading. Is this still a site-wide issue, or is it a problem I should find on my end?

Lol, And here I thought my ISP was slow.
Damn it. I guess I need to read on other site.
So it would be one less bandwidth hugger. (for now)

Not sure if my recommendation will be ignored for technical reasons, but I recommend a Patreon rather than a donation request. I think you'll get more contributors that way.

A suggestion/request: how difficult would it be to add a setting to allow us to opt to read manga at a lower quality than the original upload size? I know many for-profit scam reader sites (e.g., MangaFox, KissManga, etc.) do this despite the wishes of the scanlators or users, but this might help with bandwidth and be acceptable to many people like myself who aren't particularly picky about reading at full-quality. Even something as simple as 3 levels (low - for mobile, high - for desktop, original - for purists) would be useful.

Given the computational difficulty of downscaling all uploaded chapters server-side, maybe this could be supported by allowing willing scanlators or community members to upload multiple versions of their chapters at the various quality levels, with image quality metric and/or file size checks implemented to run (client-side in the browser?) prior to upload. The admins and community could work out the quality levels to support and the requirements for each, and propose best-practice downscaling algorithms and settings for uploaders to use.

I don't know how well this would be received by the scanlating community, but I would hope that making it an option instead of the default would prevent the usual outrage and allow users like me to contribute to reducing the bandwidth burden.

@extremeshippuuden I think that would makes even more burden on the server.
If the low size images are pre-cached, then that would consume more storage space. And if it's on demand, then the cpu would needs to work harder downscaling all those images.

@421cookies It would definitely require additional storage space, but based on some back of the envelope calculations, likely not by more than 30-50% per chapter. And generally speaking, cloud storage is much cheaper than bandwidth.

As far as CPU load, it would never make sense to downscale images on demand since 1) it is incredibly slow and 2) you would be duplicating effort. If it's just a matter of choosing which size of the images to serve, there would be no additional CPU load on the servers.
