My view of the story thus far is that he has shown he’s moderately powerful. But in comparison to the hero party he doesn’t want to seem around their level because it will draw too much attention to himself.
Yep. This. He’s mentioned before that if his allies can ever become strong enough to defend themselves from anyone who is chasing him, he’ll tell them how strong he is. But until then, he doesn’t want his strength to become a target of attack for people that he can’t always defend.

As for why he isn’t telling the hero, I suspect it’s one of two things: either he doesn’t trust the hero, or he’s gotten so used to hiding what he’s like that he doesn’t think anything of it at this point.

Warning for those who are interested in this series:
Uploader will delete all chapters once the 'official' english gets out.... and that's why there was/is a gap near chap 100.

So reader beware, read it now before he deletes it.

This kind of reminds me that Ichirou/Satou spends more effort into hiding his own abilities than beating the enemy in front of him (which tbf he can do very very easily if he decided he doesn't care anymore).

I think you’re right as to why he is hiding it from the hero. The hero is in the same sphere as like the duke, someone in a position of power who would be problematic if Satou ever revealed his heroic powers to.

Honestly Satou is getting to a point where even his non-hero persona is getting high on people’s radar. With the fairy sword and the bell signifying friendship with the giants (I believe) we are getting to a point where we can tell if the person Satou is interacting with is actually worth a damn based on how they treats him. Like the Spriggin from a few chapters ago. He noticed the things and knew their significance and treated Satou accordingly.

Sato's found himself nice employment under Muno after leaving his black company life.

Hero Hayato works for the Saga Empire. The Shiga Kingdom's prince throwing his royal authority around like the CEO's entitled son? Hard pass for the position of Shiga's Hero.
