Cut me some slacks and don't start argumenting with Pwlia, he is certainly not worth your time. Never seen someone always coming on something he dislike just to said he dislike it.

@Probably_wont_log_in_again I'm very sorry, it seems like my comment offended you on a personal level, and I can tell you that was never my intention. I admit, because of personal reasons and the fact that I was rushing, I didn't really make my point clear, so I'll attempt to correct that now for the record.

I'm actually very fascinated with Japanese culture and history, so my comment was never intended to bash Japan. It was only meant to inform. I always see a lot of people complain about the drama in drama manga, and it's true that it's a little different from Western dramas. I was simply trying to point out why. There is a big difference between Asian and Western cultures. Asian cultures, Japan in particular, do not encourage freedom of expression as much as Western cultures do. There are many historical reasons for this, but Japanese culture is much more traditional than Western culture. It's actually very strict, especially in high school. Many Japanese I've met are always so surprised when they come from Japan to the States, when they enter school in America they're shocked because so many things we do would get you suspended or sent home in a Japanese high school.

It's true that you should never use an entertainment medium like anime and manga as a basis for what a culture is really like, since tropes in those are often exaggerated for entertainment purposes, but anime and manga in particular are aimed at a Japanese audience, especially in a drama manga, so even though the tropes are exaggerated, they are still present in Japanese society. This is because readers and viewers have to be able to relate to the characters and the setting in order to be engaged. In a shounen manga aimed at young males, the protagonist is always a loner who's an outcast because they're different, but finds that what makes them different is what makes him special and finds a group of people who accepts them. This is something a lot of young people can relate to.

It's the same with yuri manga and anime. I agree that there is yuri manga and anime aimed at fanservice for males, but this manga in particular is aimed at a gay/lesbian audience. So it displays issues that they can relate to and tells a story they can relate to. The suppression of self-expresion in Japanese society, combined with the societal stigma of being lesbian in an ultra-strict society, is what fuels the plot.

Anyway, I hope this clears up the point I was trying to make and sorry again if you were personally offended by my post.

@TheMagicToaster

Thats it? You basically had reiterated your initial claim (and also what TheMagicToaster was arguing), without addressing any points of contention I raised.

...

>Never seen someone always coming on something he dislike just to said he dislike it.

listen you dumb see word, Id already explained it several times, but given that you keep repeating the same thing over and over it seems like it didnt get through:

GENRE OR AN IP ISNT ITS FANBASE, 'KAY? CLEAR ENOUGH, OR DO I NEED TO DUMB IT DOWN FURTHER? DO YOU NEED AN ACTUAL EXAMPLE TO BE ABLE TO PROCESS THE IDEA?

@Probably_wont_log_in_again Yes, precisely. It is not my intention to start an argument with you. I created the second post first as an apology to you since I seem to have offended you in some way. Also, seeing how angered you were made me realize I worded my first post very poorly and didn’t get my idea across. I was a bit riled up because of something happening in my personal life and it affected the wording of my post. It was never my intention to offend you or anyone.

Since I have said my piece I won’t reply to this thread anymore. Again, I’m sorry my words seem to have cause this lasting anger from you. I’ll be more careful about what I post in the future.

Poor Izumi. She probably thought she lucked out when she found out Nanaki's boyfriend was a two-timer but then Nanaki's heart gets stolen by a girl right after.

@ILoveTsundere upon realizing it, I quit like it was hidden in plain sight. Well back then we didn't know anything about Izumo. But in hindsight Izumi never came clear about her feelings towards Fujishiro, so in the end she only can blame herself, letting it get that far. But then again, if it wern't for Kurokawa, if she had approached Fujishiro, who thought of herself as straight, it wouldn't have gone anywhere. I guess the snap now is just the best moment, there was no time to do so before and doesn't get rejected. At least now she actually has a chance to get understood by Fujishiro, but won't get to score the happy life she was longing for so long. Sadness in a Happy moment. That drama is good.

@theender it's not like I agree or disagree with most things you two were talking, but I think that image that mostly men read yuri is very wrong, I met way more girls who read GL than men, actually non LGBTQ+ men are the ones who are more full of preconcepts against LGBTQ+ mangas as far as I know by experience

Also, just because something was released in a seinen maganize, doesn't mean it has to be one, I saw some manga to male public that were released on shoujo magazines, a big example is Chobits

Also you would be surprised about the amount of female anime fans in Japan, in the western of male and female public the numbers you can't even compare, because here is unbalanced, but in Japan things are different, many fan bases that are mainly made of men here in the west have actually more female fans in Japan, the first example that comes in my mind is Princess Connect (what may be a surprise to some, but for real, the amount of female players in the game's JP server is no joke)

But well, western and eastern culture sure are different, you also agreed about it, but you know, just because we have too many straight people that like to read gay manga of the opposite gender here, it doesn't mean that's the case, after all it's a japanese manga, it's made to the japanese public usually, specially if you consider that the author is a woman, why a woman would do a yuri manga to the male public instead of the female one? We are talking about a girls love manga, if a woman is into it, she is more likely part of the LGBTQ+ community and if that's the case, why her manga wouldn't be for that public?
