Warning:
I tend to comment as I read through a chapter, so it may be a bit stream of consciousness, filled with changed insights as things develop.
Anyway, the very first page of this chapter makes me think I had his mother pegged.
She isn't seeing him as himself, but as an extension of his father.
She was probably his father's number one groupie.
Not a healthy attitude.
If they don't find a cure, she's not gong to deal well with things.
if they do find a cure, and in the intervening time he's found something he'd rather do... it's going to get extremely nasty.
Potentially bat shit crazy nasty.
Personal Protection Order and legal emancipation nasty.
Of course, that's just in reaction to the previous two chapters, and only one page of screen time on her part, so I could be way off.
And... end of page two, and the stage is set!
Looks like some of my previous thoughts were spot on.
Finished chapter.
Sakuraba is pretty observant, isn't he?
He's clearly put a lot of thought into what's required of his body to play this game, and is able to analyze another person's movements and notice that something is off, and have a pretty good idea as to why.
And, seems to see potential in the MC.
Just... don't turn into someone like his parents, OK?
They didn't give him any choice about what he did.
So far, you aren't looking like much of an improvement...
Except, you at least recognize that one has to work with the current reality of what your protegee is physically capable of, which his mother refuses to do.
That's a definite improvement; while you aren't giving him a choice at this point, insisting on three games in your challenge, you want him to do his best with what he's physically capable of.
In some ways I can agree with forcing him to play a three game challenge, after he goes through some training so it isn't a slaughter based on his not having a clue.
He did seek this game out, after all.
He was interested enough after seeing the video of his doppelganger to investigate.
He needs something new in his life, if he's to survive mentally.
So long as, after those three games, it's his decision as to whether he continues.
Of course, we all know how this is going to proceed.
He is going to have talent at it.
Let's face it, a top level pianist has great control of his hands, great dexterity and endurance.
The ability to have his mind running two operations in tandem, as demonstrated by his hands doing entirely different things simultaneously with a unified result.
It also requires a sharp intellect, if it's to be more than rote learning, if there is to be any soul to what is produced.
So, having those skills transfer over to video game controllers is not a ridiculous idea, but actually reasonable.
The question remains, will he find it enjoyable?
Of course he will!
Like I said, we know how this will proceed... to a point.
All else is speculation.
How the mangaka actually develops things is crucial.
So far... it looks good.
