This is a bit of a bullshit arc. Frey has known Crim long enough to know that Crim isn't the kind of person to forget her friends and abandon them to pursue her "genius path". This rift and doubt feels forced by the author.

If Frey actually cares that much about fame, then it's pretty ironic that Crim could join any top guild and instantly become one of their star players, but Frey would just be support no matter what. Like the guildmaster didn't even offer Frey to join his guild, he just wanted them to target his rival.

I like the guildmaster guy though. He's not underestimating anyone and gathers info even on dark horses.
