Hi y'all~ (let me know if you read it with a redneck accent),

So..... I recently uploaded a chapter to Mangadex. There was a misspell in the chapter. I corrected it within an hour. Then I found out that other aggregator sites have the original upload, not the corrected one. So.... I want to know if Mangadex allow if I want to upload a "sort-of-fake-chapter" first, then correct it with the real chapter an hour later. In the fake chapter will have a credit page that say "read it on Mangadex for the most up-to-date version"
Now, even when I say fake it is still going to be the real chapter just that it will be the version before any proofreading is done. Therefore, there will be many grammar errors in the chapter. My thought process is by doing this any readers that read those chapters will have to come to Mangadex for the corrected version.... At the same time I am afriad that once the chapter on Mangadex is removed then that's the end of the trail.

Obviously, the correct answer is to get to proofread thoroughly... but still mistake happens. What's your thought?

As long as the corrected version goes on MD soon after the first version, we don't mind.

Some scanlaters do that to throw off the aggregator sites, you would not be the first.

I remember one group long ago that would make 2 releases. First was the mudkip version. then it was he regular release.

Theyd still be the same quality but all the dialog in the mudkip version would be stylized like "I herd u liek mudkipz?"

That won't work.

It's been tried before, when you re-upload chapters, some manga aggregators re download the chapters or host multiple versions of the chapters. This is done because there used to be people uploading gorn, porn, viruses and manga under the wrong titles.

Additionally, you're not really hurting the faceless aggregator, you're hurting yourself and your own group.

When people see MuDkipZ releases, they think you're a troll group and blacklist you. I used to do this too, basically you join a manga reading group or an addon and go around blacklisting bad Scanslation or troll groups and add them to a list to tell people to not donate to them.

@blackyawgdom Not a bad idea. I could release the final version but with a different font. Less work for me too. If they (aggretator site) like it then it's all good. :)

@crazybars Thanks for the feedback. First, is uploading the corrected version under the same release count as a new release? What I mean is I'm not uploading a new file. I'll update the existing file. Second, I'm not in a group. This is purely a hobby for a faceless internet Apache Helicopter gender continuing a dropped/back logged series. Can't hurt something that doesn't exist. Third, I don't know what's this Mudkipz thing is..have to do some homework on it first. If they will blacklist me then so be it. To satisfied both I think changing the fonts to be all the same works better. For example, shouting.. sfx... cry... emotional... etc... will all be CC Wildwords Roman. It's readable, but it will be quite annoying to read it. Thanks for the feedback again.

I wouldn't do that, you need to have in mind that before aggregator sites rip your stuff there's going to be people here reading it first, and no one would appreciate botched releases on purpose to stuck it up to russian bots constantly, it gets annoying pretty fast.

Depends on the speed you correct it. Slow enough for the bots, fast enough for the readers. Tight rope. If you have nothing to protect and getting a few death threats from some of the more entitled precious friends doesn't make you sad ought to be fine.

If you mean if you update the Mangadex chapter version does the Manga aggregator save the new version? Yes. Does that mean the Manga aggregators will save multiple versions of the chapters? Yup. Heck, some manga aggregators specialize in stealing the higher curated content of other Manga aggregators, it only takes one Manga Aggregator doing their homework for your higher quality chapter to be saved. Some Illegal Manga Aggregators even record the group names and chapter version #s as well, not all Manga Aggregators sites work the same.

These measures were designed to backup chapters against gore, viruses, rape gifs, etc, they're not gonna be tricked just because you decided to update the version again because that's what their systems are designed to catch. They will backup your new chapter version, even if they don't actually use that Chapter file. It only takes one report from a Manga Aggregator reader and they will go through their Terabyte backups, find that new chapter version and post it.

=============
Also, you do know that Mangadex users will be able to see what you are doing right? They will also be the 1st people to remember your name, hate you, report you chapters and shit on you all day. Is this what you wanted as thanks for your translation work?
Group or not, that probably will not make your day to have 50+ comments saying you suck right?

Worst of all, some of these Mangadex users are probably Manga Aggregator Mods. Your plan might simply die immediately because one of them read about it and manually downloaded the higher quality chapter version.

@DrDuckling @Holo

not sure if some one suggested this but how about Adding a little extra on each page something like
" "Aggregator Logo" We stole this and are proud "

I think if all scanlator's would do this it would be a nice deterrent

a good idea would be to make a library of troll comments and logos of aggregator sites that way every one can use them

I . . . . thought I covered this in the post above your two new posts.

Manga aggregators back up all version changes of chapters. It's automatic, they don't care about the data storage because data is very cheap. Someone reading your chapter on an aggregator site can just report the chapter and the aggregator site can look through versions and switch to the best looking version manually. Not to mention many of them best ones have user uploading and editing.

-----

The only way to have your ugly troll comments and watermarks permanently stick is to release only one crappy version permanently, which will get you tons of complaints from your own Mangadex and group readers.

Because at that point your basically trolling everyone which makes no one happy.

I know how aggregators work that's why I suggested it but it would need the cooperation of many Scan groups
and I don't think that this way would upset readers as much its not as you are changing the content most readers would understand the reason behind it

Aggregators are not profitable whit out traffic and this way will make them loss a loot you need to take in to account that there is a lot of ppl that think aggregators are actually sites that translate manga's so they try to support them and even if you decide to go around and comment on it to inform ppl that they are not the translators you wont get far as its not that hard to mange a comment section but it is hard to manage /edit pictures in that quantity

The ones you hurt the most are actually normal people who just want to read some manga.

@hazzack yeah but its mostly on the1-2 page and if it can be cut off it will be along side the credit

but i think instead to tell ppl where to read it it's more effective to let them know that the translators do not whits it to be on the site they are reading it

@dube how dos it hurt them ? its not like you are withholding or changing any thing you just add a sentence on each page which if you don't want to you don't need to read

On the other hand if more ppl visit here or the translation group on their site i think that will help more and more ppl will engage more will visit translator s ...... and more will know to avoid aggregators and more will donate and more group's will be more motivated

that's a lot of more :D

and as all know here aggregators don't give a shit about anyone's feelings so why should you or any one give a shit in return about them

The most effective way of trolling aggregators is for me to hunt down their IPs and serve them (and only them) troll chapters. We did this to kissmanga once back in the day. They only realised after a day or two.

Ultimately, if groups start watermarking etc, it becomes counterproductive as it affects our own users. That said, groups have uploaded watermarked releases for first 10 minutes before updating with a proper version. In that time, the aggregators have already scraped, and hopefully some of their readers would have been converted. OF course, they eventually realise and rip the correct chapter.
