Tbh ive been reading a bl where they play a mmorpg. Im curious to see if it would be any fun.

It depends who you play with. Some communities are more toxic than others and will watch with glee as you fail and insult you for it.

If you like Gundam, specifically the One Year War era, UCGO Private Server is for you.
Long story short, there was a MMORPG for Gundam called UCGO(Universe Century Gundam Online). It goes from testing phase to testing phase. But it was scrapped. However, the original game codes, engines and whatever got leaked to a fan. And now, there are a couple of fan servers catering to Gundam fans.
Afaik, the game run on an Ultima RPG mechanic? Like, the more your character do stuff, the more proficient your character are at that stuff. The game is very very scale sensitive. You can walk around on foot as a regular human in a hub city, and you can pilot/drive various Mobile Suits, tanks, fighters, helicopters and spaceships around. You can craft and customized those vehicles. There are two very very big maps to play in. Australian continent(yes, the whole continent) as well as Lagrange Space Map. On Earth/Australian map, you can technically walk, drive or fly from Brisbane to Sydney with no loading screen. Its very open world. But, since it never made into a proper release, the map have that 80% completion. Its playable, but occasionally you would find NPCs in odd places offering dead quest or clothing store in the middle of a battlezone.
There are part of the map that offers better mining/resources gathering, these are highly contested. The ownership belongs to one of two main faction of OYW gundam, Zeon or Earth Federation. Once or twice a day it resets, and one faction can do battle to claim the right and ownership to mine there.
