Man, this author really has talent for going from

Like seriously, does she need to scoop their brains out? Does she shove them into their stomachs the liquify with the rest of their organs or something?

But yeah, in case you forgot why poison mushrooms are the bad guys, here you go.

Also, for once Twitter can actually be correct about the tanned anime girl being black, look at that afro.

That holy water mushroom feels like an homage to the main villain of Murceilago.
Main villain? There's no main villain in Murcielago. It's a monster-of-the-week type series. Well, monster of the next two volumes, anyways.

I think it is more the fact that all this persecution brings the worst in both sides. Being constantly hunted and killed in horrific ways will make then see the other side as monsters and in a world like this actual monsters thrive.

Yeah, most times in anime dark skinned characters are just tanned Japanese or Southeast Asians since those are the kind of dark skinned people you usually see in Japan, usually when they do want to represent a black person they will do more than just give the character a dark skin. That said her design is pretty cute/cool.

Yoo that's some truly disturbing, bestial shit.

Being bound and force fed poison that with every inhalation liquefies your insides. Sweet way to go

Good that they added psycho poison mushrooms, cause otherwise it would have been edible bad poison good kind of story.
Now it makes world more complex since now it's not a type that determines alignment but an individual.
Granted it was already pretty complex because the way the author handles the types of mushrooms is cool.

Like instead of looking up the current research re: mushroom toxicity and having whatever they found be the absolute truth in the story they're having the mushrooms base things off of whatever Japanese field guides they find lying around.

So you get mushrooms like Anzutake, AKA Chanterelle, getting shit because they were listed as sorta poisonous in one particular guide.

When really, Chanterelles are delicious and also humans are freaks who will figure out a way to make a poisonous mushroom edible.

Feels a lot more similar to real life human prejudice, since that's also usually based on arbitrary divisions.
