it's likely that it's a switcheroo situation, where he swap bodies with the kid/original owner of his current body. It's not a reincarnation because he didn't seem to know things that should've been common knowledge for that body, like being a slave and whatnot.

His original dying body probably still alive because it turned into zombie like state like the goblins before.
