Hmm, him trying help them avoid those might actually be incharacter. And obviously he would sit in his chair, chuckle evil and make some excuse how this helps him later achieve his debauched desires.
On another note might also have something to do with them being half-demon since that do seems to have an effect.

This is mainly speculation going off the previous chapters, but it seems that their mixed demonic heritage traits causes their bodies to fight itself. Could be an advanced form of puberty that could tear their bodies apart, or cause them to go out of control. The medicine seems to help with that, somehow.

If you want to look up a clue on how bad that can be, you can reference an old comic called L.E.G.I.O.N Issue #7. Or don’t. Late 80’s comics are pretty hard core.
