The problem is, someone like MC IRL has no actual interest in other people, so they would never actually agree to help with this kind of bullshit and never put themselves in this position to begin with.

The author wanted to make a character based on Hikigaya from Oregairu. But the main thing that is different from both characters is that Hikigaya never had a problem talking to other people when they interacted with him, he's just traumatized by things here and there and can't trust other people, however he does want genuine interactions. But here in this manga, we know that the MC on his own would never want to be friends with any of these characters, he's just being forced to interact and can't refuse because he's a people pleaser.

The other girls are just such background characters and doing whatever the one annoying one says. And I don't know if the author realizes, but the said bitchy friend is clearly projecting her own issues and insecurities and taking it out of others and that's getting annoying. You're not beholden to explain why you're doing stuff outside of a friend group. Especially when they can see what you're doing on display and even the results of what you're doing (like there was phsycisl acknowledgment that the grades were better and yet part of the argument was not attending Karaoke instead of studying??).

This is just dumb. Like, not in a good one. And supposedly in the original timeline they broke ties just from having seen a light novel fall out of her bookbag and it was so bad she stopped going to school all together... WTF?? What is this author even trying to say. These are terrible people yet the story keeps trying to pretend they're being completely reasonable. Like the MC comes off as an idiot and apologizer when he thinks "yeah, the innocent one is partly to blame for not giving her friends a reason why she wanted to join a committee to help make our school festival the best it can be and (I guess) not asking for permission to study with the smartest people in class to prevent failing."

Good friendships do mandate CONSISTENT attention (just like promising to meet once a month or having stuff planned), but God this "your whole world better revolve around this one friend group or you're a terrible person" shit is just awful. I definitely don't think this drama is over exaggerated at all. Girls do be like that, especially high school girls.

Remember that in the previous timeline when Hoshigasaki got isolated, it was pretty early on, so they weren't really good friends then. I still think it's dumb for her to be judged and isolated for liking light novels, but again, high schoolers.

Now, they are much closer friends, so yes, Hiiragi is being a bitch. But as was pointed out, Hoshigasaki hasn't properly explained herself either. Really, she needs to tell Hiiragi the truth about Nanamura, which I don't think she's done, yet. That would clear pretty much everything up and also probably stop Hiiragi being jealous.

But again, high schoolers and drama.

It kind of reminds me of High School Musical, where everyone must only have the same interest as their circle of "friends". It's stupid but kids do label their friends and themselves into certain archetypes, and deviating from it is a taboo.

I'm making fun of how Nanamura assumed that "Hanamitsuji can't be fooled" instead of "Hoshigasaki didn't really do a good job hiding it."
