That's right save them so they will face the full extent of the consequences of their actions. Them dying with smugass feeling of dying as martyrs wouldn't sit right with me.
At least i hope they will be able to understand how terrible an action they were trying to commit. Though i dunno if author will write that ah ah.
It's trying to be dark but have the naivety of "everyone deserve to be saved" MC kind of getting annoying, I'd rather have good person but still have the resolve do pull the trigger when needed.
Even superhero trope that use the naivety and recklessness the most, sometimes have the guts when faced with reality.
