…that city name is Carbuncle, isn’t it? Kalbunkle doesn’t make sense, but any fantasy game or FF player will immediately notice it’s just Carbuncle once you swap the Ks with Cs and the Ls with Rs.

Fun fact: The word "Carbuncle" originally referred to blood boils, but was also once used to refer to red gemstones in general, especially red garnets cut as cabochons, which one could argue resemble their namesake. You may notice the fantasy critters of the same name tend to have red stones embedded in their foreheads.

In my opinion, this underground city isn't practical for them to use because of how far it is from the surface. People who are used to seeing the sun every day will want to see it.

I would agree, if not for the fact that they arrived here via a porta(teleporter? transport tube? Either way, fast travel). At the end of the previous chapter, Hiel even says "this is useful, it could return us to the surface..." and she comments on how many portas there are around, so if the author wants to keep this city around, he's already set up the breadcrumbs to make it have easy surface access.
