It's an adaptation. They always end like this. It wasn't axed, it was budgeted.
Personally, this was a cute, short story, that had a bunch of nice characters, but it out-stayed its welcome. It'd have been better as a really long one-shot, rather than drag it out as much as they did.

Also, damn the TL note at the end there dishing some real harsh brownies, but you're not wrong! derp

Wow, just when it was getting interesting again. If only it hadn't veered off into mediocrity before this moment. Probably deserved the axe, but it stings that they didn't end it at a good point, like after the Hero was sent off to defeat the demon lord.

They just had to cliffhanger it in the beginning of the next story arc.
