So the MMC gets his moment to show off his skills, but the FMC is once again shown to be dawdling and incompetent! :dogkek:
Seriously, I'm waiting for the moment she shows off her skills - the skills that can defend a nation solo.

The way Amon portrayed how he ended up inside the dragon is that he was cheerfully-foolish, but since it appears he's got baggage of his own he wants to atone for, it could be that he was suicidal. Which loops back to my theory of the dragon being a sanctuary of lost souls
well, he's just been clearly established he's willing to lie out his ass when he thinks the situation/other person will benefit from it; he probably took one look at the walking stomach ulcer wearing another country's armor who'd just dropped in & decided it was best not to spill all the details lol. Especially if i'm correctly reading what the rest of bomb-girl's backstory set up- that being:
  • Amon & his brother were orphans in the duchy of dumbass (wanted to think of a decent pejorative + clock pun combo but something like "Dick Tock" was as far as i got before aborting the line of thought from disgust with myself)
  • they were picked up by the same training program
  • (as we've seen) the training program involves all of the children fighting each other and the losers being disposed of; one of the two found out about this & realized they'd be pitted against each other specifically
  • the two hatched an escape plan*
and then either only Amon escaped & he wandered until eventually getting eaten... or (what I feel is more likely tbh) the dragon magically sensed a couple of REALLY stressed out children and flew in for a snack the instant they escaped. (hell, maybe the dragon was the distraction they needed for their opportunity! they just didn't realize the fucker's like a stress-seeking missile who'd go after them specifically lol.) Amon's "cheerfully foolish" framing is probably because HE escaped from that life (directly into the dragon's gut lol) assuming they'd both get out, but his brother didn't- maybe he got captured at the last second or something- and ultimately brother blamed himself for Amon's (assumed) death, utterly broke mentally and went absolutely sicko mode, leading to where we are now

*i was considering maybe brother modified the warming magic into the bomb spell as a way to take the facility hostage in the process of escaping or something, but... that topic hasn't been expounded upon nearly enough to make that kind of assumption yet tbh, that could be basically unrelated to their interpersonal story & is just a "brother/whoever he taught it to kept on using it after he was gone & the psychos at the top thought of a really funny way to repurpose it" kind of deal or any number of other things

Amon is an adult by the start of the story, looking like someone in mid-20s - early 30s, and he says he's been inside the dragon for 6 months, and that doesn't seem like a lie. He also went through elf mommy's apprenticeship while his brother seemingly didn't, because the brother didn't recognise elf mommy at all.
So I think the timeline is as follows:
  • They are two brothers in trapped in a hole thinking of a way to escape. It may or may not be a part of the Duchy's program for raising Spartan II's.
  • Amon escapes one way or another, his brother seemingly doesn't
  • Amon wanders the land and gets picked up by elf mommy, learns magic from her, meanwhile the brother gets picked up by the Duchy
  • At some point, Amon departs from elf mommy, continues wandering the land, develops the warming magic
  • At some later point, Amon joins the Duchy, or otherwise assists the Duchy in convert his warming magic into a remote detonation bomb
  • Meanwhile his brother makes ranks in the Duchy
  • Amon comes to regret his involvement with the Duchy, absconds deep into the mountains and becomes a survivalist hunter
  • The dragon swallows Amon
Okay, disregard that, he's developed the warming magic when he was in freezing facilities, most likely the Duchy's. I need to rethink the timeline. But I believe the swallowing happened much later

here's my extrapolation:
amon and his older brother were poor as kids in the duchy, both talented at magic but amon more so, brother got recruited in exchange for a better life for amon and became the hard ass he is. Amon lives his life developing magic for the duchy then runs away after what it's being used for, runs into the elf and does something to help her and the opposing kingdom, leaves again to continue his travels and ends up eaten by a dragon.
