I reread a little early Dai and it’s really funny to compare the two. Hadlar is such an ugly bum in it, the scene where he mentions asking Avan to become his servant has a completely different vibe and Hadlar himself is far more serious and handsome. Likewise his ghost form has the same kind of ”cool aura” as late game Hadlar, while early Dai Hadlar looks like a Hokuto no Ken grunt who fused with a goblin.
My point being, I‘d really love to see the manga attempt to ”update” further earlier content of the og manga. It already did it to some degree after all.
In general, the story has also had the fundamental issue of powerlevel: the whole Avan story is like og DB, powercreep happens and Dai already scares shitless a powered up Hadlar, but unlike og DB it’s just shown through very short flashbacks that weren’t given top much thoughts. The prequel has been doing a very nice job at giving a convincing powerscaling but it’s also hard to forget that Hadlar will get multiple powerups and get humiliated by younger kids after that, even if Dai is fundamentally special. So I do wonder if the prequel will further attempts to ”tweak“ general consistency. From what I’ve understood for example, the prequel already sets up the fact that Hadlar wasn’t always a slimy bum and rather got worse, to give some basis on how he jumps back and beyond to his endgame personality.
Also it’s really nice to hear the manga is popular: also means an anime has some pretty good chances of happening!
