I just realized that at some point this manga will reveal how Avan got his Amogus emblem.

If there is any opportunity to make Amogus jokes in that chapter, I will do my best to make it happen. Alas I'm not very clever, but I'll try.

How is it?
If you liked the original Dragon Quest Adventure of Dai anime or manga, it has a very similar feel to that.

If you are familiar with Dai no Daibouken this series fleshes out many of the events that were only briefly hinted at in Dai no Daibouken: How did Avan learn the Avan Strash? How did Maam's parents, Roka and Leira, get together? How did they meet Matoriv? How did grandpa Brass wind up on Dremline Island? What was life in the subterranean castle really like for baby Hyunkel? How exactly did Avan defeat the demon king?

If you are not familiar with Dai no Daibouken, the story still holds up. The art is modern compared to the old very 90s-looking Dai story and this series tries a bit harder to incorporate Dragon Quest game content (bad guys and spells)... but the story is at it's heart a wholesome story that follows the same tropes that all DQ stories are known for (good guys win against the bad guys).

Right now there are only 8 English chapters out. So it's not terribly long to give it a shot. If by Chapter 8 you don't like it, you probably won't like the series as a whole.

Woa. Didn't even know this got a translation, or remember this.

I read all the chapters, and it's an interesting manga so far. The name of the spells and techniques are somewhat awkward sounding to me, but not a big issue. Give this a read if you like the original manga.

Really interested. Dai no Daibouken is my favorite childhood manga. I really love the story, the art, the plot. Hope this manga is as good as that

They did! It's ongoing, but it is getting closer to the end.

My English translation is about 20 chapters behind... Unfortunately, I can't really do more than one a month being a solo translator (I should give up doing sound effects, it would help make things go faster, but I just can't!), but there's a French version with the latest chapters out.

It seems mangadex got hit with a massive dcma takedown request for this series, and others.

Being that I did not do chapters 1-5, I do not have copies of them translated. But, that being said, chapters 6+ are still available on other aggregator websites and I do plan to continue translating this series because it will likely NEVER get an official translation.
