In bad faith? 100% because I think you are being silly jumping at shadows. "Bwuh! The horror! It's referencing real world political issues! How dare he (or she)!"
I can see how one may interpret this as political commentary. Did the mangaka intend that or was it by accident? Who knows, can't read their mind and I don't care to dwell on it. Letting politics live in your head gives you brainrot. Instead, I'll mock drama queens on the interwebs too uptight to set politics aside and enjoy it as a macabre story about eating aliens.

Anyways, good talk. :headpat:

On a side note, I do find it interesting that many new accounts were made in the last few days just to post in this thread.

Oof, the vibes are rancid on this one. The people defending this title, ask yourselves: What about this story would be fundamentally different if it were "Americans" instead of "Aliens"?

This manga has some very traditional Japanese reactionary xenophobia disguised with modern aesthetics.
It's a work of fiction. Not everything has to be political. They're intelligent creatures that come from space. What else are they supposed to call them? And our main characters' hate towards them is quite justified with how harshly they're being treated. Why do you always feel the need to insert your political ideologies onto every piece of media you see?

The vibes of this series are a tad off. Its got like, the goofy alien design of an irreverent comedy series paired with a pretty wild xenophobic theme. Is that wrong? No. Characters in fiction can be flawed or whatever. I just wonder where it goes from here. Is it an upward or downward trajectory? Does it just keep getting crazier chainsaw man style, or devolve into a bland battle shounen?

Hahaha man, this is interesting...

So for anyone wondering, the whole controversy around this manga with just 1 chapter is that some people on Twitter say this is the worst manga ever because it has racist/xenophobic connotations too close to reality (that may or not be true). Ofc in the other side of the spectrum the racist/brain rot users found this and are shilling the manga as the best manga ever lmao, so no matter what side of the coin you agree to, both are fucking stupid and just the typical Twitter moment of canceling something.

Now if you want my two cents.

This manga is funny. Because it is not a self-published or doujinshi but an actual serialized manga, meaning even if the author is racist or whatever this did go by a ladder of people to agree and correct just this chapter so I highly doubt even the intentions of the author if this is a political statement but a marketing strategy to make people talk about it.

Now about the actual story, is it racist? Well kinda?, but only in the eyes of the MCs, who I love btw, because they are clearly portrayed as dumb, antisocial, and angry guys which means there can be a lot of growth as characters, and while this takes place in a modern setting, the fact that they are "aliens", a term very popular from certain countries to refer to immigrants; and similar real live social commentaries doesn't help, this is just a fantasy story. Sure, being racist is bad but so far the aliens portrayed in this story are just manipulative, entitled assholes, who also seem to have colonization tendencies, so this may as well not be racist at all, and how these aliens do not have anything in common with real live immigrants and their circumstances in foreigner countries, comparing, these aliens look comically ridiculous as it should; just like how Frieren was used as a racist queen but ignore the fact that she is being "racist" against actual demons with no redeemable qualities, that could very well be the case here as we been hinted, or maybe the MCs are just that shallow minded for their circumstances and will come to meet most aliens are assholes but some are good, you know kinda like one of the best animes of all time, Gintama? I find it funny how similar the plot is with these two series but since Gintama is a parody from day one and has amazing writing so nobody thought about it.

And at its core, this manga too, is just a story about two bucket heads, that are gonna murder people, or aliens, deal with them, and then deal with the repercussions. That's it, the plot seems intriguing and it could be built into something good, and for it to be picked by no other than Shonen Jump? Probably they figured out something interesting, all the racism, xenophobia, and similitudes with what you mostly see only on brain rot social media seem very far-fetched to be genuine, as there is an unruly law about not making serialized manga about real social/political problems, at least not in your face like west media usually do and definitely not in a shounen magazine, so yeah ignore the trolls and dumb keyboard warriors, this manga could be good and I would fucking crack if this has a wholesome message by the end lmao.

So it's just 'They Live' movie's plot with a twist, could be good. Hope they don't try to subvert it and the aliens are actually just faking the fact they 'saved' humanity.

the thing that struck me as kind of "off" about the manga is the one line the protag has in her rant about how much she hates aliens "I hate girls who call their boyfriends their 'partner' almost as much as i hate aliens" and like. That one felt Weird. It kinda had similar vibes to me that the cyberpunk electric ninja one from a few years ago had where "globalism" was the enemy and the thing ruining the economy in japan

Reading the first chapter, it's obviously impossible to tell whether or not it's going to be anything amazing. Premise is certainly interesting enough and I like the art.

What is a guarantee is that well into the future we'll be seeing people still coping about how it 'Definitely isn't a metaphor' though lmao. It's not subtle in the slightest. The real giveaway on the authors perspective isn't the aliens though, it's the "I hate women that call their boyfriends their partner".

I think people are so stupid or they are new in the anime/manga community, there are worst things to read like this soft edgy manga, even if the manga is racist who cares, the art is good, the plot is good and is fictional!!! WHAT!, FICTIONAL! what is that!.

I will definitely keep reading to see how the story goes.

i dont think its correct to equate the aliens to another race, it seems to me that the manga portrays them as a higher class within society rather than people of a different ethnicity or race. they are clearly being treated way better than a regular human.
The aliens are outsiders who only entered Japanese society 9 years ago, something that is emphasised when Kitami reminisces about the beach in his childhood. They are clearly supposed to be a "conquering class" of outsiders, rather than simply the "upper class" of society.

Whether this is an allegory for immigrants, Americans, nothing at all, or who knows what else, who can say? But I think it's clear that they aren't just "The Rich" as some are trying to make them out to be.

I am gonna be honest - Enjoying this manga (or anything really) simply because it makes twitter (or people you don't like) angry seems pretty ingenuine to like it

Like you wouldn't care about it if it didnt make people on twitter mad
