more changes to the story compared to the novel, guess it's safe to say it's completely different now.

On the novel, he meets Haruka and her friends much earlier in the story, visiting her normally. One is described as a short japanese-style beautiy, the other was a super bodacious half-western girl with giant boobs (few girls appear in the story with larger ones). They were at Haruka's house rather than the hospital, and the two girls completely started to hit on MC
Haruka is a dungeon streamer, the other girls sometimes join her, with one of them working as the cameraman, so later MC becomes their cameraman

There is no "fake death", and he is sent to school as is, just to get the license.

And that causes an uproar on which classes the Hero will join in. His identity is also relevant since the new DK knows he is the one who defeated the previous DK

I assume it may still happen, but
we had a flashback story of his time with the girl he likes (and their dog Johntarou, a mix of names by the otherworldly Rinka and him)

Sayaka was taken out during the previous attack, and pretty much only returns during the school arc do drive him... And then goes missing again. She still treats him like a God, and never shows a face like knowing how useless he can be.

Since the novel never had him explicitly say "he wants to do Rinka first", and he had shown interest in doing it with other girls, his excitement for the school was entirely understandable, as he thought, and had the opportunities, to do girls, only being stopped by his "oh no, maybe they don't want it" or "external circumstances" bullshits. But with the Rinka excuse being explicit, I guess that's a no-no now.
His sister sure knows him well.

I am guessing the girl that spit the drink is the half western girl with big boobs?

The novel sounds better than manga.
My feeling here is that the manga is trying to "fix" some inconsistencies, or at least offering some new options unavailable in the novel.

The School for example is only explained around chapter 100 I think of the web novel, so they are skipping a lot.
But all that content skipped has so much goddamn filler that to some extent, it's better for it to be faster in the manga.
His sister sure knows him well.

most likely yes, my main surprise is with the japanese girl, from what I remember she is small boobed, and was described as black straight hair, so seeing the brown ponytail girl was weird.

To describe the 1st meeting, MC was able to get contact with Haruka from his sister when asked about the girl he rescued.
Then while at her shared apartment with her friends, they are all casual, worried about Haruka, and she telling them she met a guy, and them thinking she is deluded, so MC knocks on the door, one of them answer it, and when they see him, they invite him in, and move away to change clothes.

They return completely changed, and flirting with MC, in fact, big boob girl was so forward she was able to get MC to have a date with her before the other 2.

The novel sounds better than manga.
Yeah, novel MC acts more like a wistful middle aged guy who lost his youth and is only now being given the opportunity to live, which I think is more interesting than the usual perverted trope (for instance, his main thought about going to school was that he'll finally get to experience a high school life, which he never got to experience because he was conscripted from middle school onwards). He also has PTSD from being trapped in the dungeon; his bodyguard did try to seduce him as in the manga version but then felt guilty and stopped when she realised what he needed was someone who supported him through his trauma, not someone trying to take advantage of him.

Negative thoughts swirling in her mind as Sayaka opened the door—only to find Ryuuto on the bed, wrapped in a blanket from head to toe, staring straight at her.

“Ryuuto-sama…?”

Even after realizing that the intruder was Sayaka, Ryuuto, who was kneeling on the bed, did not loosen the tension in his body in the slightest. The moment their eyes met, Sayaka felt an overwhelming pressure, as if something had been shoved down her throat. His eyes gleamed in the darkness like those of a beast. Sayaka had endured grueling military training—so severe it had made her literally cough up blood and even caused her monthly cycle to stop—but the moment she saw the man before her, all that hardened resolve evaporated.

“…Sorry. Sometimes when I think of weird things, I just can’t seem to get a good night’s sleep.”

“Ah-Ah… I see…”

“It’s just a habit, you know? Even when I know everything’s fine, I can’t let my guard down. It’s especially bad at night.”

At least, he could still hold a proper conversation. Sayaka barely remained standing, feeling like her knees might give out at any moment.

What good would it do to be scared here?

“Ryuuto-sama, may I come closer to you?”

“Yeah, that’s fine.”

He gave her the permission to come close. Sayaka climbed onto the bed and without any spontaneous movement, she moved next to Ryuuto. Once she was closer to him, she realized that Ryuuto’s body was burning. His body was as hot as fire. Even though it was almost early winter, his body felt like it was burning. Then it hit her—Ryuuto was trembling.

“Ryuuto-sama, are you feeling unwell…?”

“No, I want to sleep, but I just can’t seem to calm down. Well, there’s no way I could sleep soundly back when I was trapped in the dungeon after all.”

Sayaka gasped at that. As she tried to control the bubbling emotions and suppress the trembling excitement, Ryuuto suddenly leaned his body against her. Before she knew it, sweat was dripping down her face. It was a different kind of intense tension from undergoing combat training. She felt as if she couldn’t breathe. She had studied the proper etiquette and how to serve her master, but she didn’t know if she would be able to perform her duty properly.

Ugh, whatever happens, happens!

“Ryuuto-sama, I—”

“Ugh-!”

“Huh?”

Ryuuto’s body suddenly collapsed onto Sayaka’s lap. Sayaka immediately caught him out of reflex. Unexpectedly enough, she ended up holding Ryuuto in the safety of her arms. The weight of Ryuuto’s body felt unbearably real to her. Sayaka stayed in that position for a while. She didn’t know how much time had passed, but she finally steeled her resolve and turned on a small light by the side of the bed.

“He’s asleep.”

Ryuuto had fallen asleep with a peaceful expression on his face, like a child seeking comfort from their mother. Sayaka gently lifted his head and carefully positioned it onto her lap. She felt embarrassed at herself.

What a fool I am…

She had never truly thought about how Ryuuto, who had wandered in dungeons for 20 years, would feel. had always assumed he was a hero—someone who was strong, unshakable, and immune to pain. She had decided that image to him without knowing what he was like. But now, looking at his peaceful face as he slept on her lap, she finally saw a different side of him.

Then, Sayaka began to think about his hellish struggles over the past 20 years.

It’s interesting that they chose to draw the MC as kind of ugly. Not the typical trope at all.

The thing that I have a hard time with is that he was missing and presumed dead for 20 years and the happy reunion lasted about 3 minutes before everyone started treating him like an annoying pain in the ass.

There’s no gratitude for his sacrifice, no empathy for his suffering alone, no concerns about trauma, no desire to spend time together. Like what the fuck?
It's 2026 bruv, those good writings for now are of the past works :meguuusad:

Yeah, the very guy who defeated the demon lord, but is treated like a nuisance because... erm... he's a little horny, or something...
I think you'd struggle to find anyone who goes 20+ years in a time-frozen region full of monsters, with zero human contact, that isn't a little loony. In fact, he's pretty mild in his horniness all things considered. He seemed to be mostly insane before now, just mindlessly wandering the dungeon and hysterically lashing out and eating monsters that he came across before they found him again.

Good Lord, it seems we got utterly robbed in this adaptation. This is honestly a recurring trend in recent years where adaptations are usually enshittified in some way, whether it be censorship, whack ass changes to the script/story like this or something else just as stupid.
What the fuck are all the editors in Japan doing right now? The novel sounds way better :bleh:

This is another scene where he encounters a stray puppy which reminds him of a dog that saved his life in combat when he was 15; the manga seems to have cut this out to skip straight to the school arc.

Ryuuto left the tower condo and headed to the nearby river. Outside, it was still dark. He walked slowly. Even in the dim light, he passed several women out jogging. Each of them stopped with a startled look when they saw him, but no one spoke to him.

I guess a lot of shy people are out early in the morning.

He bought a canned coffee from a nearby vending machine and stood on the levee embankment. He remembered Johntarou’s final moments.

The time bomb Rinka had handed him had immense power. That one shot turned the tide of battle. Ryuuto broke into the dungeon, defeated the enemy Dungeon Master, and seized Hachiōji Castle.

But he never came back.

Of course not. The time bomb with Rinka’s magic circuit was unbelievably powerful. It truly deserved to be called a one-shot kill. After the war, he told her the truth, but not once did she blame Ryuuto. That made it even harder to bear.

He sat down on the embankment. The morning dew soaked into the grass and wet his butt.

When he looked up, Sumire was standing behind him. Just like the first time they met, she was in a suit and sunglasses—perfectly put together, not a single detail out of place.

“Good morning, Ryuuto-sama. I had hoped to serve your morning coffee at dawn myself.”

“Yeah. Well, this cheap stuff suits me better than any fancy beans.”

“Are you feeling unwell? Or was I too foolish last night?”

“No, it’s not you, Sumire-san. I just remembered something from the past.”

Somewhere, he thought he heard a small dog barking. Ryuuto placed the canned coffee on the ground and, not caring about getting wet, pushed aside the grass and went down the embankment.

There, nestled in the tall grass, lay a brown dog. He could see teats on her belly—she was female. She was unmistakably dead. As Ryuuto approached, a puppy burst out, barking furiously. He felt a sharp killing intent from behind and turned around.

Sumire.

She had a knife in hand, ready to throw, her eyes cold as ice.

“Stop. It’s just a puppy.”

“But it’s a stray. We don’t know what diseases it might carry.”

To protect Ryuuto, she would eliminate anything, without hesitation. Sumire was a complete professional. There was no room in her actions for personal feelings or morality. Ryuuto waved his hand lightly and spoke with deliberate casualness.

“It’s fine, it’s fine. It’s not a big deal.”

He reached out his hand. The puppy growled and bit down on Ryuuto’s right hand. However, Ryuuto’s palm, hardened by over twenty years of combat in the underground dungeon, was as tough as a well-worn glove.

The puppy’s tiny teeth couldn’t pierce it. Sumire visibly tensed, but Ryuuto stopped her again.

“That dog lying there is its mother. This little one is just trying to protect her.”

Its coat was rough and dirty, but the dead dog was a red Shiba Inu Ryuuto recognized well. He let the puppy keep its jaws on his finger and simply waited.

“This little guy probably thinks the whole world is his enemy right now. And it’s no wonder. He just lost the one who loved him most, who kept him safe.”

Ryuuto looked straight into the puppy’s eyes. He didn’t move his fingers. Gradually, the puppy let go of his hand and, as if unsure of what to do, backed away.

“It’s okay. Come here.”

Even Ryuuto was surprised at how warm his own voice sounded. The puppy, which had been whimpering softly, realized Ryuuto wasn’t a threat, gave a tiny wag of its tail, and soon began crying in a more affectionate tone.

The puppy rubbed its face against him. A deep tenderness welled up inside Ryuuto. He slowly opened his arms, and the Shiba puppy leapt into them.

“Did you know, Sumire-san? Dogs are smart, full of love, and when it comes to protecting what matters most, they can be braver than anyone. They’re that kind of friend. Ahaha, hey, cut it out. You’re getting me all sticky. Haha. Hey, how about becoming part of my family?”

The Shiba puppy gave a cheerful bark. Ryuuto buried his nose in the pup’s fragrant fur and took a deep breath. Puppy scent. He smiled.

He glanced at Sumire. She was squinting as if dazzled by something, staring intently at Ryuuto. For some reason, he suddenly felt embarrassed. He nervously touched his own cheek with his left hand.

“Ryuuto-sama. If you’re going to keep him, you must give him a name.”

“You’re right. His name is—”

While the puppy licked his face, Ryuuto lifted him into his arms. He had already decided on the name.

Isn't that like real life war heroes, grand celebrating day 1 welcome home, after that people go about their daily lives, same with funerals if it's your family it's a sad time but the world goes on.

He did great things in the past but that kinda thing are easily forgotten after the pat on the back

this can either turn bad or good
i am leaning towards the good part.
Nah it will be bad he will be a beta male that will constantly cock block himself and there will be many who try, if there is a woman he's tempted with before his fated one, there will be a interruption

37 year old man gets to go back to school with a 99% female enrollment and date a cute highschooler and his 20 year old handler. It's so shameless I can't help but root for the author's very subtle wish fulfillment.
Except he won't date anyone till he reunited with the woman he made a promise with anyone else till they meet up is just a waste of time that will go nowhere

Why is he so contradictory? He doesn't want to have sex with anyone because he vowed to give his first to his childhood friend, but at the same time he skirtchase whenever he has a chance.
So he avoid having sex with the escort, because he already has a lover. But okay to get close to a highschool girl in all girls school? It's only cheating if he have sex with them?

Rinka the girl from his past, it's to create misunderstanding and waste time giving situations in chapters where, will he stop waiting, obviously until rinka all others are wasting their time. It's just like a romance story with a few back up girls who have 0! chance and just increase chapter no count

But it isn’t a vague thing he did for faceless people. He saved all his party members, including his sister who’s his only blood relative. The survivors lived for 20 years bearing the guilt of his sacrifice. He’s a general hero figure and a “god“ to many, but I’m talking about his actual friends and family just moving on right away.

No, the be more accurate the trend is "LET'S FUCKING SANITIZE THE SOURCE MATERIAL SO IT CAN REACH A WIDER AUDIENCE, WHAT POSSIBLY COULD GO WRONG"
Koibito Swap got sanitized so hard it killed the manga adaptation, most revenge time loop web novels are getting sanitized into manga adaptations where they editorial try to make it romcoms and then get axed quickly.

This is becoming more and more ass with every single chapter. The author is erasing everything that makes this special and reducing it to another fucking high school dungeon manga. Not to mention that the protagonist's personality is just pure trash.

Yeah editorial fucked up, this time the blame isn't on the author if it gets axed.
