I mean, the new names were already present in the Yen Press translation. So I’m guessing the editors on both sides talked about the correct translation to use.

I applaud Laius tentative, it was much more believable as a speech than the "friendship conquers all" crap that we see always, but clearly, he forgot to account for how far gone Thistle's mind is.

I dont blame him for trying too, he had very few ways of resolving things from this point on, he simply doesn't have the magic or knowledge to undo the seals or even resurrect his friends, and more than anything i think Thistle wasn't being malicious here. Like i said and has been shown in the story, his mind simply is too far gone and he can't see or deal with things without being extreme.

I don't understand the people calling Laius dumb that was pretty much the only option he had. Thistle is the only one that can do a lot of things that Laius needs done in this situation from calling off the dragons to resurrecting his friends so he can't just kill him or anything. Laius did his best trying to convince Thistle and it kind of worked, but Thistle didn't understand it the way Laius intended.

I think there's a good chance eventually. The book just gives information about the characters and world (~188 pages), there's a fair bit of text tho. It has information on every named character that appeared so far and monsters and how the Dungeon Meshi world looks. I know some people on 4chan has already translated some pages.
