so i can only imagine that bell will somehow confront nidhogg because this is too important an enemy for him not to be involved. will the rest of this story take place in the main manga/anime or will bell somehow get sidelined in an event revolving around gods that he and hestia are personally connected to. i just don't see how they can do anything moving forward without him who is still the de facto mc even within this spinoff.
The plot point about Nidhogg and the six maiden is solved in Sword Oratoria, but Bell is involved.
This part of the story is now at the start of the 12th LN of SO and this story arc is finished at the end of the volume.

Is it Ais shoujo-vision or is Bell taller?

that'd good to know but i'm assuming this means that a portion of this story still takes place in the main story, right?

No, it's all in SO. At least in the novels.
hmm, that's weird that they don't mention bell confronting such a major opponent in the main story. you would think a monster that threatens all life on the planet would be a major enough event to make bell level up. i guess SO was just written as an extended universe story and the author forgot they were writing a story that matches events alongside the main story and that this was never even hinted at in the main story.

I guess the goal is to keep the main story independant from the substory. The readers have to be able to read only the main story and not have the impression that something is missing.

i feel like they kinda failed at that then. lots of things in the main story seem to be answered in this spinoff instead. like how did the main story's novel address Dionysus going back to heaven? it's a god that hestia and even bell interact with yet he gets "killed" off during an event that happens while bell is off doing something else. there's also the whole demeter situation that seems to affect the food situation in orario. hell knossos is also another issue since bell only dealt with one of the people involved with it. i can't forget to mention the viole or whatever those flower monsters were called as well since they aren't natural monsters.

Those are all related to SO's plot only. If you only read the main story LN (Familia Myth), there are no mentions of Dionysos, Enyo or the Violas.
So Dio going back to Heaven hasn't to be explained if you read only the main story. Demeter Familia disappearing is not mentioned in the main story either, so you don't need to have explanations about the consequences (Plus there are no real consequences about it but elaborating further is spoiler heavy territory).

The only plot point used in the main story and solved in SO is Knossos. If you have only read FM, you have the impression that there is still a second dungeon used by the Evils as their base under the city and nobody is doing shit about it. But that's why it is still recommended to read both FM and SO. Plus having everything explained twice would make things boring to read.

but the violas show up in the main anime don't they? well either way it's become very apparent that one would need to read/watch the main story as well as all the extended universe spinoffs to get the full story. i guess that's definitely one way to milk your already existing audience.

I haven't watched the anime. I have only read the novels and mangas. I will watch them when I find time.

Well, SO and the original stories run parallel but many situations bell find themselves in are not known because Ouranos wants them to keep things a secret. Like how Bell got hurt is to be kept a secret(mostly because of the involvement of juggernaut) in exchange for keeping Ryuu's identity a secret. That's why most adventurers and even in SO, there's little discussion of what Bell's familia did or been through.

And Loki's familia's trials are also kept a secret from the main cast of danmachi because it involves many schemes and they are unsure who are on their side or not which is why if you read the main story, you only know bits of pieces like Ainz becoming lvl 6 but not how.

About milking the series, this story comes from a novel which is a book that cost less than 10$ and comes out every year and if the book is long enough, every 2 years. I can hardly call it milking the series when the total cost of having to know the story is like max $20 for a year lol. The real milking is probably the mobile game as a lot of the past and sub-characters get a lot more development there. There is an argument to be made that if the mobile game didn't exist, those stories won't even get to be told but man does it suck that you can only see certain stories in a game that has gacha mechanics.
