@agshield Honestly Bell and Ais aren't really a "good match" with anyone. Ais has all her social awkwardness and Bell is your typical 14 year old kid. Come back in 2 years and maybe he'll have some game but right now? Not a chance.

@Kaarme I've never gotten the impression from the manga or the light novels that Lefiya wants to control Ais's social circle. She just doesn't like Bell, and so what if she doesn't. Honestly if Bell wasn't the MC you probably wouldn't care that she didn't like him. Also remember she's 15. Of course she's a bit selfish, that's what 15 year olds are like.

@ProfStryker She doesn't like Ais spending time with someone Ais herself likes to interact with. At the very least Lefiya wants to be present there as a third wheel to make sure Ais doesn't do anything Lefiya doesn't approve. If that's not wanting to control Ais's social circle, I don't know what is. In fact she doesn't even particularly hate Bell personally. If she did, no sense of duty would make her do what she has done. She's simply jealous of Bell for gaining a bit of Ais's attention (and everything related to it, like why he got Ais's attention). If Bell had no connection to Ais, or the connection was something inconsequential and not repeated, Lefiya would hardly notice Bell at all.

Being 15 doesn't make one selfish. It all depends on the individual. Lefiya happens to have a disagreeable personality.

@Kaarme If your crush wanted to spend a lot of time with someone else, who they had a crush on rather than with you, wouldn't you be jealous and unhappy? I know I certainly was at 15. It's not logical and it's petty, but that's how emotions work.

@Kaarme You haven't spent much time around 15 year olds have you? And time spent when you were a teenager doesn't count. Most of them certainly aren't mean spirited but they look at the world through a narrow lens and rarely ever try to think about things from someone else's perspective. That's not to say that they won't help if a friend or even an acquaintance asks for it, but in normal situations, 9 times out of 10, they're only thinking about themselves. That's called being selfish. Learning to broaden their perspective and think about other people is part of what becoming an adult is about, and they've only just started that.

As for Lefiya controlling Ais's social circle, show me an instance of Lefiya trying to get rid of someone other than Bell and I'll give your theory some credence. Until then it falls under the category of just not liking Bell. In fact show me an instance where she has tried to get rid of Bell. Also Ais and Lefiya have the same social circle. The only friend of Ais that Lefiya doesn't share is Bell and the only friend of Lefiya that Ais doesn't share is Filvis. Therefore when someone new is brought to the group Lefiya has every right to say "No, I don't like this person. I don't want them here." just like Ais, Tiona and Tione have the right to say "I do like this person. I do want them here." Friendship is a democracy man, not a dictatorship. In fact, unless you have no friends, I'd bet that you have experienced something like this in your real life. Someone brings a new person and the group splits into 3 factions, "I want them," "I don't want them" and "I don't care." Then you effectively vote, though it's probably not that formal.

For why Lefiya doesn't like Bell you've got part of it, but only part. Remember Bell made a remarkably bad first impression with her. Intentionally or not he made a fool out of her, then she saw him and her idol "cuddling." Then throw on Lefiya's jealousy over Bell spending time alone with Ais. Finally add on the facts that Bell is beginning to trigger her inferiority complex and the fact that she hates to lose and frankly I'd be astonished if she didn't dislike him.

Also speaking of first impressions did you start Sword with the novel, the manga or that travesty of an anime?

@ProfStryker No, especially not around 15 years olds who voluntarily fight for their very lives as a part of a solid unit regularly. You'd really think they would make them less selfish, at least outwardly.

If you control the presence of just a single person, then you do control the social circle to a degree. Especially when it's someone like Ais who doesn't even have a whole lot of what you could call real friends. As to whether she's able to do it, well yeah, she hasn't got the sharpest ears of all elves, so of course she doesn't succeed very well. She doesn't need to care about others for the time being because they aren't a threat.

I don't remember their first meeting. Sure, it would have a significant impact. However, it's not clearly Lefiya's main reason anyway. It's just the jealousy and the fear of Ais actually starting to date a dude and not a certain female elf.

The anime. I like it, though.

@Kaarme yes if you control the presence of just a single person, then you do control the social circle to a degree, but it's her social circle too. So she has every right to not want people she doesn't like hanging around. Also it should be pointed out that she's never tried to get rid of Bell. Not even once. When Ais was training him forcing her to stop seeing him was the opposite of what Lefiya wanted because then she wouldn't have gotten any personal training time with Ais. The only other time she's known that Ais and Bell were going to be spending time together is just now when they were going shopping and she only complained at first because she thought Ais was asking her to accompany Bell on her own and she didn't want to. You're free to take issue with a character for whatever reason you like but at leaste make sure the events actually happened and aren't things you just made up.

As for why I said the anime was bad just go reread and rewatch the 24th floor pantry arc. The difference is so large it's almost funny.

@ProfStryker After the latest chapter, I suddenly lost all motivation to continue to blame Lefiya in this particular case...

For the whole Man-eating flowers thing, couldn't they have been smuggled up as seed or saplings then left to grow on the surface? Sure in their large adult form it'd be hard to get them up without anyone noticing, but it'd be just hard to try and ferry them around the surface incognito.
