This is the kind of illogical set of actions that make me want to drop a manga.
In the previous chapter, Kaido and the others believed the MC when she said the tea may be poisoned. And now they just take the medicine that the old dude is giving them? Despite them feeling unusually tired and unwell?
The author should atleast try to be consistent with characters' decisions.

Well isn't the director suspicious as fuck at this point? There are far too many unnatural points with the way he pushes things forward.

I wonder how the group got drugged/poisoned. They didn't ingest anything, so...some kind of gas? But Carol would notice that.

It was kinda fun seeing Carol completely oblivious to the classism and comedically miss the point. Of course orphans aren't dirty if they bathe. That's sanitation. :D

Damn, what a shame. This manga goes downhill really fast. Especially like how the author ignores previous chapter and forces new things next one.

it always amazes me when I see people act as if you can only do one thing at a time in hyper focus.
It's ridiculous to claim that you can't treat a sick person while also investigating Pit Viper. It's even more ridiculous when you realize the kids have a far too large stash of it which makes visiting the director and making sure they don't croak before you can finish interrogating them is logically part of the job.

I feel insulted that the author considers this to be something readers can just accept.
WHY WOULD THEY TRUST THE OLD DUDE? LIKE EVER?

So bitch magically isn't a bitch and asks for help. Old man who was saying medicine is good, now that they want to ban it he just disappeared from the conversation.

This shit doesn't make any sense anymore

See, you all just don't get it. It's not bad writing; it's a revolution in narrative structure! When there's zero consistency between chapters in terms of events or character interactions, you can start reading anywhere and it can't be any worse.

So let me get this straight, you're specifically out here to investigate the horrible drug going around in this town, you find a child selling said drug, and your response is that it'd be a waste of time to do anything at all about it. Christ could the old man look suspicious any harder.

Form what we know so far this is my theory:

Kinda long story telling:
The old man is a colleague of the Mc's father and is peeved at being stuck in his shadow. Wanting to stand out for his own merit, he takes a risk to develop a miracle restorative medicine even if the components are poison. Thinking "Great things, require great sacrifice" or "Those hacks know nothing of it's potential. I'll show them and overcome the side effects with my skill!"

He starts by setting up a manufacturing lab in the sticks and takes advantage of the orphanage as a labor force. The director is in on it but only because the orphanage desperately needed the money. The Orphanage's director has gotten sick from exposure but can't do anything about it despite knowing the cause. The orphan's are oblivious and don't know why the director refuses the "restorative medicine".

Despite looking down on the orphans as "dirty", The Healer takes one as an assistant to help procure material and as a potential scapegoat. After being taken in, cared for, and trained in healing, she is loyal and respects her master to a fault. Who is she to doubt her master if he tells her "it is not a dangerous drug, but a restorative medicine in the hands of a skilled pharmacist." or "It is still in the development stage so it is expected that there would be a few kinks." "This is the daughter to my nemesis that stole my thunder. Keep an eye on her." "These bureaucrats don't understand my work. How dare they try to interfere before it's completion. We may have to dispose of them. Prepare the Tea."

After discovering the state of the Orphanage director, A conflict of interests arise as to her loyalty to her master and affection towards the beloved director. Only by confronting the effects to those she holds dear does the doubt start to take merit and her loyalty start to wavier.

I expect the apprentice to turncoat and the Old man to try and claim ignorance and pin everything on her.

TLDR; The Old man is the mastermind. The apprentice is just a loyal scapegoat. The investigation is getting too close and the "Healer" is slowly poisoning the investigation team.

@chilzhul LOL

Throw the old man out of the airlock already!
Goldfish memory-people here, forgetting what happened last round. (referring to the (allegedly) poisoned tea, which they have now forgotten)

@JKLnHYD oh wow! *clap**clap**clap**clap**tears streaming down my cheeks*

@Doramas
The mayor said that the villagers feel fine if they keep on taking the drug and the dudes feel weak because they stopped taking it. They still drank it atleast once before.
