The monster in the first floor has 1 eye in its mask, while the caretaker has 6 eyes in hers, so possibly they fell to the sixth floor right now or it means is the caretaker´s serial number.

That does seems to be the case, it is possible that the previous group got wiped because they tried to "procure" food on the spot and got murdered by stronger caretakers.

This series is quite intriguing—it feels like a blend of Made in Abyss and Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou. The "Caretakers" resemble the "White Whistles" who guard the bases within the Abyss, yet—at least from what we know so far—they seem safer and more approachable, much like the characters in Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou (though the nature of Caretakers on other floors remains a mystery). The story concept is compelling and addictive, making me eager to read the next chapter as soon as possible; hopefully, the release schedule picks up a bit.
