What is with Japan's love for slaves? They're pretty much in every fantasy series now.
I'm not complaining because I think it's bad, it's just become a cliche at this point. :pepehmm:
Japanese learnt from American with their old slave culture. Now they can only copy it in fiction works.

It would be more cost-effective to fire the cannon not fully powered up and then be able to reuse the "ammunition". But instead of that, they send out soldiers into battle, not all of whom come back. And of course, enemy soldiers die as well. But that doesn't count as human sacrifice for some reason.

The sentiment of sending men to die in war only changed after the mechanization of warfare, so just around a hundred years ago. Before then war was fought with a few hundreds of thousands casualties each year. A justifiable lost of life for lands that can make a lot of profit.

Also those artillery can seldom take and secure land by themselves. It doesn't matter how much you save by being cost-effective if you can't make money from conquering lands.

What's this, goblins that aren't a bunch of generic green rapists and are actually lolis with housekeeping and logistics skills? Ok sure, why not.

There's a reincarnated as a goblin series similar to this behavior as well. Have to be taught and led by their chief, but they're all actually chill dudes.

Slaves are fine imo for fantasy series. Historically and even now there's slavery in our history. I'm just wondering why is it always only women slave for the most part. The funny thing is the exceptions where there is slavery that show just people and not only women enslaved are usually the better series.
I wouldnt mind slavery being part of (some) fantasy series as like you said its sad fact of history. I just wished it would get treated with seriousness it deserves. Im not expecting all series to turn into documentaries about cruelty of slaverty or mc:s to start slave revolts. However at very least i wished the constant fetishization female (often sex-)slavery would stop (honestly its also really overused and boring trope at this point). I especially hate how many series go out of their way to try to make a point about how "slavery is actually good in this world".

I started to think I judged the MC and the series too harshly last chapter, but now only marginally so. Still not interested in this one, even with the monster girls spread.

I like it when MC isn't that OP, but resourceful like this. He fights as if he's an OP character, but have a make sense trickery to back up the bark.
The author also set him up so it made rather logical of him to keep working in the shadow (by having an illegal weapon and so his trickery isn't known) so he have a reason to hide everything.

I get why people are already mad about the slavery aspect but, and I hate to say in defense of it, he knows what he is doing is wrong and straight up illegal. But by hiring (of course) female only slaves of ogres, goblins, and abandoned elves that would likely be turned into target practice or worse, he's, at least what we've been shown so far, is not only protecting them as well as properly feeding and caring for them, but keeping most of their existence a complete secret.

Probably the only one that usually goes out with him is that one elf. Yeah, it's still bad and will probably get worse, but it's the nature of nearly all fantasy worlds. Even non-Japanese fantasy novels or games contain slavery of some kind.
