I wasn't expecting much at the beginning with the repetitive scheme, but it managed to evolve into its own thing and it's actually quite touching. Yes the protagonist seems to incarnate a cliché by rejecting himself, but ultimately it still leads him somewhere instead of having a stale situation, so I would consider he's getting proper character development. I can comprehend him at least and I'm enjoying this.
