MC was just an ordinary person in his past life, he is different from the people in this other world who are already used to this. Killing a creature that is the same height as a child (perhaps) for the first time should at least have some recoil. And the reasons you mentioned were what made MC get over it quickly.

Bruv... Just cause it's the "Same height as a child" it's a goblin... they look like a small demon... there'd be a point if it looked all innocent and gentle, but it's a menace that wants to rip you apart...

Human Fight or Flight wouldn't allow you to care. Just like you wouldn't think too much about kicking away a rabid dog, even though it's a dog, but it's feral and rabid and looks like it spawned from hell, so you don't care anymore.

What annoys me, is authors ignoring something so basic and obvious.

MC is gonna care more for a goblin, than the average person would a rabid dog, when the goblin is 100 times worse. And was never a cute create to begin with unlike the rabid dog.
