Doom was first for videogames and it was indeed Hell, but the idea of humanity ignorantly pursuing some sort of exotic energy or resources or the like and creating some sort of gate to a place they shouldn't or attracting the attention of things they shouldn't dates back a very long time in both fantasy and scifi. Maybe almost as long as we've had myths, almost as soon as people speculated about forbidden underworlds and such, people also thought about tales of those who'd break taboos and take risks for gain and sometimes draw doom upon themselves as a result. The wormhole machine reminds me of Half life 1
Eh, yeah the exact timing is a common enough narrative trope to maybe irk a bit, but I think it's forgiveable here because the triangles were already there, had already enountered the characters, were already interested in getting in, and likely saw the characters get through the door they'd previously only given some effort to which in turn would be very natural to result in them suddenly trying very hard since clearly there were now opponents and something of interest inside. Sure it could have taken another 10 minutes or hour but then again they could have chatted for longer or taken a rest afterwards and result would have been the same, and author clearly is trying to keep things moving along promptly not one of those series where it takes 80 chapters to go anywhere. I'd actually have kind of liked it if there wasn't any drama, they really could relax and explore a bit, and Ney head off to the moon, but I'll forgive the author adding a bit of tension here given how good it all is overallsort of convenient the aliens didnt manage to get in until exactly now after the new character finishes their exposition

If he got exposed to the red fog though it's all over immediately, and those already corrupted humans are as big as full size humans. Ideally he'd have a better security system but this was all apparently super sudden and coming from a fairly advanced utopian civilization so there was no time. He doesn't appear to have any convenient advanced tech stuff like access to a functional automated assembly plant, so there isn't necessarily the capability to construct anything to really fight them with, given even a slight puncture to his protection suit and that's it.I thought Ney could just stomp all of those triangle heads if he wanted to
Thus making it uninhabitable for thousands of years. I get the sentiment though. I think a biological/chemical weapon that targets the red fog would be superior. Already been shown that the chemistry of creatures modified by it can be so different that different food reacts violently to their saliva, so there's a chance a chemical weapon or a biologically engineered bacteria could poison foods etc.Gotta nuke it all from orbit and start fresh.
