and also bruh, this World has no balance at all. frickin monster and magic everywhere and only saint can use magic in human side (later turn into witch lol)
Are u reading the manga? Humans can use magic, did you not see the ice & fire girls? Did you forget that mc is just a fake saint?

Saint is just a human that can naturally use a certain magic, u can probably guess what magic it is as only saints(witches) can hurt each other naturally

It's not just you. The author clearly is painting this dude to be idiot and instead of doing the cliche thing of justifiying his failures, it instead describes how much of waste of space he is.
How is it the teacher who is obsessed with his young Saint student is a better person than this ruler of a nation? Like... how? I'm kind of in awe here. Like I heard about from the other media that the teacher is a scumbag, like borderline PDF. But here he's somehow miles better than the leader of a nation who makes all the decisions.

Alright, I just wants to comment this just to answer to those saying the king doing bad mistake and everything because this clearly shows that most people reading this truly have no idea how that world is or how the war is and more so on the how is the losing war. This story tells us before Elrise came the world in ruins and human are basically near extinction. The previous saints are not even able to change the tide of the war human is always losing there's no resources for everyone to stay alive much less to protect everyone. That is what the king is aware of the fight human has no chance of winning all they can do is delay the situation. For those who doesn't know how strong superior monster is...a superiors monster could easily wipe a castle full of soldiers and entire village. 100 to 200 soldiers won't even leave a scratch on that thing. This is how bad the situation is. It's easy to say people makes a mistake when you have no idea how bad the situation is. The king decides to sacrifice the village but you guys should know if he choose to save the village that means leaving the capital with more population defenseless. There's not enough soldiers to protect everyone they're living in world like us today which is peaceful on most part. If you keep looking at Elrise perspective everything looks easy because she is simply too strong. To understand the king decision you need to view on the human, you said he can just abdicate that is simply the most stupid decision he can take. Know why? This world has no democracy or other forms of government if the kings abdicate it means the entire system is stuck until new kings appear or someone take the throne. If you didn't agree with this feel free to comments your great solutions in this losing war situation and what the king supposed to do.

telling a kid "you are need to die after this end" and expected her to not doing something?

The explanation as to why this happen would be at a later chapter after MC meet Sage Turtles, and more so, find the ATLANTIS

Mind spilling the beans then, since the arc basically got skipped?
So the last saint before Elrise was Alexia.

When the Saint kills the Witch, the curse is transferred to them, and they go through a terrible transformation and become the next Witch.

Saint Lilia was the Saint from the generation before Alexia. She was one of the weaker saints, and struggled in her battles against darkness. She was raised from birth to be the saint. She never had a life of her own to live. She only one purpose. To be the saint. She resented her fate but never gave up and did her best anyway.

She died after being attacked by monsters although it was implied that she did so intentionally; aka that she comitted suicide. She most likely killed herself because Aiz told her the truth...aka, even if she could kill the Witch, she would become the next Witch.

Who could do their duty knowing that would be the outcome? Lilia couldn't bare that burden. So she decided to die instead. She took the easy way out. But who can really blame her?

When she died, the Witch of that era had no further obstructions and wiped out most of the human territories with little resistance. Tens of Millions of people died before Saint Alexia could be born and grow up and finally kill the Witch who by that time had been loose on the world for almost 40 years. ☠️☠️☠️

Tragic. 🥺

The dude got a guilt complex that is screwing up his decision making. That complex lead his sister to a grisely suicide and allowed his sons to die to monsters they couldn't handle. He should have went all in to defense, turtle his nation, forcing his citizens to leave outlier towns while greatly protecting inner defenses. And of course, put the next saint into a coma after killing the witch without telling the saint he was going to do that.

It sucks when the pedophile looks better than the king.

Yeesh. Their world was even more of a shithole than RWBY or Fallout. Maybe even worse than Megaton Musashi's world in some ways.

No shit he failed. He is retarded. Instead of taking measures to PREVENT things from getting out of hand (with the exception of the witch thing, since he cannot do shit with the witch cycle thing), he just REACT as things happened.

Pretty sure all these things in the chapter didn't happen all at once. Must've been years since he did look older on the latter part. So in all those inbetween years he could: create a Knight Dispatchment System to facilitate sending knights to help rural villages. Create a Forward Operation Base in multiple stages and places to boost the efficiency of the previous. Create better logistics for the knights so that the previous two could work smoothly. Not enough men? Recruit more. Pretty sure not everyone in these villages are farmers. Some of them could be jobless. Some of them could want to fight to protect the land. They can be recruited as forces to fight against monsters.

That's just one option to help with the monster problem. King is just retarded.
