There is actually a reason why the witch looks like our dear Saint.

Every time the world makes a saint and said saint defeats the current witch. The corruption that makes the witches moves to the saint thus turning them into the new witch. This cycle went on for god knows how long

At least Pochi died with a peaceful mind, not feeling like he failed.

Elrise acted like a real saint there. She's a fake saint, but there's no rule that says a copy can't be better than the original, no matter what Gilgamesh would have you believe.

It might be shown in the next chapter but as this was happening Elrise explains how the event went down in the game. In the game Pochi still guns for Elrise but game!Elrise squeals like a pig and hides while Vernel and friends fight and take down Pochi. After Pochi is killed Elrise runs up and starts kicking and spiting on the dead Pochi in which players would be like "Can I just let Pochi kill Elrise...?" The answer is no, if game!Vernel is defeated, Elrise is still protected. Elrise then goes to mention that on a replay after the witch route is cleared, each time you land a hit on Pochi you get happy fun time stills from puppy Pochi being happy, thus causing immense emotional damage to players, and eating up time for speed runners.

Also very disappointed in the manga... The WN goes on to describe how the sight of Elrise embracing and comforting the dying Pochi to be an absurdly beautiful scene that could be turned into a painting (its a CG in the "present" version of the game though). Sasuga Saint Elrise.

The manga is okay. But yeah, there is zero question it is watered down heavily and that the WN is wayyyyy better.

And I am not usually someone who thinks the original is always better(this is just a case where it really is objectively superior)
