Because it is common for people to not tell someone they are interested in them, whether for fear of rejection, for fear of acceptance (this can also happen, basically they are afraid of not knowing how their life will change once they are in a relationship), or fear of ruining what relationship they currently have with them by making it awkward, many will just sit idle until it is too late.
