Simple, it's to gain experience, you don't lift 300lbs barbell at first go, need to steady practice and along the way you gain also other valuable information, not just pure muscle mass.
Nobody goes to gym perfectly ready to use equipment, know proper training or even diet needs to be re-adjusted because there's no universal standard for everyone. This is just an example.

He wouldn't knew about the glasses princess being evil, neither queen a satanist, nor the slime being some sort of ultimate teacher if he did kill elven slaves for exp, which in both instances were cruel as fuck.

Mc is unfortunately an idiot and whoever thinks him enduring those tedious tasks is pointless are more shortsighted than him.
