Stuff like this simply is how languages evolve
And that's still bullshit. Language doesn't magically evolve on its own. 100 % of all language evolution to have ever happened, and to ever happen, did, does, and will do so solely and consciously through its users.
and how previously "incorrect" forms become standard
Through exactly whose usage again? Congratulations on inferring the trivially obvious; all you argued with that was that negligence and laziness isn't exactly a recent phenomenon. But just because people robbed and murdered other people 2000 years ago still doesn't make it right today, either, now does it?
Either way, what even
was the point of invoking that historic precedence? Yes, "ye vs. you" happened, congratulations, you've read something a book. In practice, however, this means nothing: it happened way back in the past; insisting on going back to the now rightfully archaic would be pointlessly, self-servingly anachronistic, whereas this here is about a creep that's happening
right now: Right now you have the chance to decide to simply not contribute to the perpetuation of this idiotic corruption of perfectly good grammar. But do you do it? No. Instead of committing to making conscious and productive use of the tools and avenues that are
afforded to you by the commonly agreed-upon, widely taught, and ubiquitously consultable rules and guidelines for conveying ideas, notions, and concepts in written and spoken language called spelling and grammar, you prefer to feeling some inalienable right to be a lazy, negligent fuck violated and pulling some moronic argumentation out of your ass why that factlet is now supposed to be a carte blanche to just write and spell and word as if everything was just write-only memory. When did it leave your mind that language doesn't just serve itself but exists for a reason? If you're not willing to make an effort to be understood and pleasant to follow, why do you bother even
appearing to be communicating? Strikes me as an odd waste of time. If all you're interested in is to know your incoherent bleating to be inevitably witnessed by the masses, might as well post your stuff on some more one-way media. I hear Twitter does this rather well.
Go on then, spell "a lot" in one word, spell "could care less", spell "c/w/should of". Go on then, lead the new line in a line break with the hyphen that should have gone at the end of the previous part like so many education-resistant TS present on this site insist on doing, even though it has exactly zero justification in modern typography, drop the vocative comma and then go "haha funny, eat grandma for dinner" like that's some innate and uncontrollable quirk of written English and not your weaseling out of paying due diligence for readability, not forcing the reader to backtrack and reassemble the intended meaning from your half-assed regurgitation. Go on, treat everything you ever communicate as if there was a continuous competition of how much you can be a lazy motherfucker before your utterances become truly unintelligible.
100 % of this is avoidable. Nobody here or there is innocent.
you understand the meaning
So, if I refer to you as "moron" it would be fine; after all you would understand the meaning of me just referring to you, yes?
and it doesn't sound awkward.
Says who? Clearly
I think it sounds awkward, haven't you paid attention? Granted, I don't claim to be the standard authority of things, and while it's just me who happened to choose to raise this issue on this occasion, yet: absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. I clearly managed to pay attention, clearly remember my primary-level grammar; why can't you? Who are you, who is anyone, to decide that that's suddenly void?
Language isn't math, it doesn't need to be consistent to be correct
Clearly you fail to understand the purpose of language and how it applies to both math(s) and to spoken and written prose, or you wouldn't resort to such laughably treat-the-symptom-not-the-cause-style of argumentation.
All I've heard are petty excuses and deferrences of responsibility. I have yet to hear a single actual justification worth the term.
