Some new stuff & changes for 2026 season of F1​

Chassis and aerodynamics​

• ⬇️ Smaller and lighter:
  • Wheelbase reduced by 200mm (to 3400mm)
  • Width by 100mm (to 1900mm)
  • Floor width cut by 150mm
  • Minimum weight down 30kg (to 770kg)
• ⬇️ Reduced downforce by ~15-30% from removed ground-effect floor tunnels.
• ⬇️ Reduced drag by up to 40%.
• ⬇️ Tyres: cutting drag and minimising weight.
  • 18-inch wheels remain
  • Front tyres are 25mm narrower
  • Rears 30mm narrower
• ❌ Drag Reduction System (DRS) removed
• ✨ Active aerodynamics: Movable front and rear wings replace DRS for high and low downforce configurations, enabling extra grip and speed where the drivers need it most.
  • ➡️ Straigth Mode: if you've watched Future GPX Cyber Formula, this is basically Asurada's Aero Mode
  • ↩️ Corner Mode: this one is Circuit Mode

Power unit​

• ⚖️ ~50/50 Split: Shift to approximately 50% internal combustion (ICE) and 50% electric power. 
• Simplified Hybrid:
  • ❌ MGU-H removed;
  • ⬆️ MGU-K power increased significantly (120kW to 350kW)
• ✨ Sustainable Fuel: In case you care so much about environment, tho... I think it's still nice to have some alternatives to the fossil fuel.

Cars in 2026 regulations are expected to be 2 secs. slower than previous regulations.

New terminology​

• BOOST MODE:
  • Energy deployment tool from the Energy Recovery System (ERS), to be used offensively or defensively depending on track position.
  • It gives the driver maximum power from the engine and battery at the push of a button.
  • Can be activated by any driver, anywhere, anytime.
  • We have this one for years... and this along with RECHARGE will be highlighted even more this season due to the increased portion of electric power of power unit.
• OVERTAKE MODE:
  • New push-to-pass mechanic replacing DRS, deploying extra power to instigate an overtake.
  • Can only be activated when a driver is within a second of the car in front at the detection point, just like DRS.
• RECHARGE:
  • Drivers can recharge their battery with recovered energy from braking, on throttle lift at the end of straights and even corners where only part power is applied. check here for more info.
• ACTIVE AERO: explained above

new OT mode is crapping out more power similar to attack mode in Formula E & OTS in Super Formula, but has similar activation requirement to old DRS.

old DRS however is... I'd say, evolved into active aero, it's available to everyone without worrying about the car in front. it's mostly to compensate the engine changes in new regs.
