Have to admit that if you did start with an illiterate character, becoming literate would be a HUGE upgrade.

It would, indeed. A lot of people don't consider that Adventurer Guild quest boards imply that every adventurer can read, and that's simply not the case for the kind of thugs they get portrayed as.

This was something Kingdom Come Deleverence did so well, sure teh game was playable if ye couldnt read, but learning to read makes it so much easier
