wow. 100,000 is either a throwaway number by the author or that number is actually high for japan (and it seems to be the latter from a google search). japanese standard of living is obviously different, but wow. that number is really off from what americans and other countries (canada, switz, aus, etc.) earn on average per month/per year. going off averages, regardless if it's total or disposable income, the us is ranked in the top five, if not first, with an average of 30-40k and 70-80k for my state. this means americans are earning an average of 2k to 6k a month. with currency rates rn of the japanese yen (108.27 Y to 1.0 USD/1 Y to 0.0092 USD), his parents are earning roughly 900 USD, together, from a company, per month. it's amazing how different incomes are between the us and japan. i'm not looking down on japan, it's just interesting.
